I wanna ask you guys something

Where did you all learn to create those great websites that you have right now?

play with the program and you will be so good as the others (not me i have to learn more :sigh:

playing right now with Swift 3d! awsome real fun!

Creatures

Practice, practice and more practice.

I think the way most of us learned was by playing around with the program and visiting sites like Kirupa. Doing tutorials and then taking them further is one of the best ways I know of.

i agree with kit

PRACTICE, PERSISTENCE, TRIAL & ERROR

I think that sums up how those peeps have such cool sites

I hope to be like them one day :smirk:

It takes some designer skills too…

Not just knowledge of flash…

trial and error. just expirementing until i get it right. and alot of work goes into it.

:beam:

5 good books, performing every tutorial that they contained, and www.Kirupa.com

that’s all it took. Though my site still sucks… been in a slump, and before that spent a lot more time helping people here than working on it. Eventually it will be done… just taking time.

and most of my flash “skills” are learend here. but im still in the process of learning.=)

Dave I dont know how you can do it.

I have a hard time going back to something I worked on 2 weeks ago let alone how long you have been working on your site for.

I just come back to things and think - ah why not start all over, I have a better idea anyway and than BAMO nothing ever get’s done :frowning:

playing on flash everyday is a great help even if your not on it for very long… but if you leave it you will forget how to do it…

i did… :beard:

well… I can say that I’ve learned flash REALLY fast… I didnt get heavy into it until last December…

and I dont think the secret is practice… of course, you’ll get better with experience, but if you just go out and buy a book and do the examples, there’s the likelyhood that you’re going to quit…

… so you have to find something else to motivate you, and that’s the secret… because you can only learn so much by the hour, but wether you’re motivated or not determines how much time a day you’ll be studying flash… I can say that I’ve sat in front of a computer for 8 hours straight trying to figure out how to do something for my site…

… find an idea, and then go for that. Set your sights on doing something that’s thoroughly complicated, and if you’re motivated enough, you’ll eventually do it…

Sureshot… I suffer the same problem. That in addition to being a procrastinator is a real pain in my butt, and it’s exactly why the site has never been completed. I break from it for a while and by the time I return I opt to recreate the whole thing… I get to a hurdle and I have to break from it again. Really it’s a matter of never learning how to deal with walls well in life. Learn now… while your young that a hurdle is meant to be jumped. If you stop to think about how to cross it… you’ve lost the steam needed to do so.

Ditto on what everyone said above. I also enjoy reading up on design and usability issues at sites like Zeldman and Flash 99% Good.

wow ren… pretty good sites…
should have told me about those earlier!!

great links, indeed! thanks!

Try, try again…
I learned all I know just by figuring it out, or finding somewhere
that knew how to, and taught myself. I have 1 book, Flash MX
Magic that I only bought out of hype, but it’s not really any help
for me at this point. It’s a bit above my level…

I learn from doing tutorials from sites like Kirupa and Actionscript.org =)

tutorials, tutorials, tutorials, and more tutorials. Of course jsut knowing how to use the program still doesn’t mean you will make any thing cool. The is still some natural design skills needed to make the really cool stuff.

although I don’t care for the owner, www.flazoom.com is an excellent place for usibility issues, and for good design ideas for the business clients…
