I’m currently doing Computer Science and was just wondering if you had to choose a certain path to follow in your degree?

For us we have to make up our minds to either do software engineering or information systems. Software engineers get paid more but apparently there are more information system jobs around at the moment… ahhhhh what to choose?

I was pretty lucky with mine, it was a modular degree. There were about 20 or so different modules to choose from each year, of which you had to do six over the course of that academic year.

The modules themselves covered a huge range of subjects. There was multimedia, music, graphics, programming… You name it. I wanted to do the more techy programming side, so I took modules like C++, Java and web design.

I was really annoyed that the year after I left they bought 50 Net Yaroze machines and introduced PlayStation programming. :sure:

i still need my degree… =( without it,… i am nothing (at lease to employers)

If it’s any consolation, I did mine three years ago and it’s not worth the paper it’s printed on. :sigh:

All it really shows is that I could stick three years of listening to hirstute Computer Science lecturers in tweed…

playstation… ewwwwwwwww :stuck_out_tongue:

I wanted to learn and then go and work for Square on Final Fantasy. :stuck_out_tongue:

It was a good course though. The whole web thing was just taking off, so the HTML module I took was very basic. That’s why I’m mostly self taught on all my web skills. But the Java and C++ and VB and all that, they were good to learn.

yeah, all self-taught over here

(which is why I suck :P)

Sounds like you had a nice variety of subjects to choose from. Unfortunately we don’t get that choice. If you want to do multimedia I’m pretty sure you have to be enrolled in a Bachelor of Digital Art. I’ve been trying to get into some animation and digital image courses for my elective but they require prerequisites and I can’t fit them in which really sucks. Hmmm playstation programming, that would have been really cool

i want to learn game programming, that’d be so cool! =)

my friend is studing just that, game programming, and its aweseome. hes like the best or somthing. =)

w00t! I get my art foundation results today! wish me luck! :thumb:

/me craps himself :stuck_out_tongue:

Good luck.

I remember what it was like getting my results… Even now I can feel the panic. :stunned:

hehe, thanks. it’ll be ok methinks… I’ll definitely pass…? I hope…?

btw, what happened to that cybergold ā€œrulesā€ thread before it got deleted? (I assume it got deleted?)
