I purchased an iMac today!
I’m finding it extremely annoying trying to connect it to the internet.
Here are the details-
I’m trying to connect my mac to my current adsl modem/router (speedstream modem via inbuilt airport extreme). My notebook connects to the modem via a usb 2.0 54mbps netgear adapter. I set the notebook up using the installation CD that came with the modem, and so I wasnt sure about the wep key/password thing, but I eventually found it and set my mac up. So the mac was now connected to the network, but couldnt access the internet. When I tried to look at some sites, safari threw this at me ‘safari can’t open the page because your computer isn’t connected to the internet’. After that, I lost connection to the network (I assumed it was just poor reception). That was only half of the problem though. Even with good reception (I moved the mac closer to the modem), it couldnt access the internet and it would be disconnected from the network.
So just before, I set up the network properly, and airport’s status was then ‘airport is connected to speedstream and is connected to the internet’ or something to that liking. I open up safari again, it tries to connect and the connection dies.
I hope you understand my explanation. This has got me stumped and ticked off.
Appreciate any help :ne:
edit: oh yea, when setting it up the first time (on the mac), it asked me to restart my modem. The setup failed though and it couldnt connect, then after that whenever I tried to set it up again, it says 'there was an error joining the airport network “speedstream”. When I try to set it up again via system preferences (I was using internet connect before), it says that my wep key is invalid. That cant be right, because it worked the first time.
