Alright, so I got a power-supply, motherboard, loaded with RAM, a video card, etc. A CD-RW disk Drive and a blank hard drive, + monitor, mouse keyboard (all peripherals needed), and the computer I’m building isn’t expected to be connected to the internet, just as a workstation, and some games.
I also have this computer that I’m using right now
All I need is an Operating System, and I was thinking of getting Ubuntu. I have no clue how to install an OS from a clean formatted HD. Does anyone know how I would go about doing this.
I’m gonna say what I think I should do first.
Computer A = this Computer
Computer B = the computer I’m building from scratch (and installing the OS on)
idea 1:
- Download the Live CD ISO, and burn it to a CD using Computer A
- Insert this CD into the disc drive of Computer B
- Go through the BIOS settings to install Ubuntu with Computer B
Is it that easy? Would that way work, or what else what I have to do to prep this?
idea 2:
I’ve been ToLLed by a couple of psp software developers (exophase, and Wally) that this probably wouldn’t work with Ubuntu, although it does with some other OS’s
-
Download somthing like Wubi, which is a GUI for Windows for the installer of Ubuntu, I’ve used this before for installing it on a computer with Windows already installed, (with Computer A)
-
Open the case of Computer A, and insert the hard-drive from Computer B
-
Install Ubuntu using Computer A, onto Computer B’s hard-drive
-
Take computer B’s Hard-drive, out of Computer A, and hook it back up to computer B
-
Boot up the computer, and it should be installed ?
This would be my preference, although I’m not too sure if this would work. If any of my ideas would work, which one would you use and why?
I would like to have the computer up and running in a couple weeks, so I can sell it to my friend, who wanted a computer without windows, he’s anti-M$, so anything would do he said, but he did want a valid OS
