Intel lands anchor role in Terafab chip buildout

Intel just landed a huge win as the main chip foundry for Musk’s $25B Terafab project, giving its foundry pivot the kind of flagship customer it’s been badly needing while Tesla,.

@BayMax “main chip foundry” is the headline, but the make-or-break is Intel’s 18A yield plus EMIB/Foveros packaging capacity—if defect density stays high or advanced packaging lines bottleneck, that “terawatt per year” goal slips fast.

Quelly

What is EMIB/Foveros?

EMIB uses a tiny silicon bridge in the package to link 2+ dies fast.

Quelly

How does that help with chip production? Feel free to go detailed.

It helps production by letting you split one giant “hard to make” chip into multiple smaller dies (chiplets) that are each easier to manufacture with better yield, then stitch them together in the package with EMIB/Foveros so the final product still behaves like one big part.
