Iraq War, analysis

The Conflict in Iraq has been going for a while, so far that Coalition deaths to this day reach 902, along with casualties that don’t return to duty reach in to thousands. So it is no doubt bloody for the US armed forces, along with its allies. To make matters worse, many allies have already pulled out or are pulling out their forces; it’s becoming harder to find volunteers to go to Iraq even with the promise of big checks. The British side, Tony Blair, the primary supporter is getting ready to leave office, while most people expect the Labor party to stay in power, there is a chance the new PM will pull the forces out, not very likely, but there is a chance. The assassination of the current leader of the Iraqi administration is a serious set back. On the other hand, 1500 schools have been refreshed, there are thousands of reconstruction projects underway, and the energy distributed is higher than before.

Personally, I believe anything winnable, including this war, but not the way we are going at. Looking at in historical aspect, US is doing a lot of mistakes it did in Vietnam, we are trying to fight Ideology, with Technology. It didn’t work in Vietnam, and as in Vietnam, the enemy insurgents have no problem in starting an attack anywhere they want. Another aspect, while we don’t know the exact number of enemy guerrillas, they are tying down a huge number of troops. And if we compare the number of resources needed to upkeep the US forces compared to the Guerrillas, it would be a loss for the American side, granted US is aware of this. Like Vietnam proved, we need a large support of the public to win a conflict like this, and its slipping all the time, unless there is a way to reverse this, personally I believe Iraq will be lost. I think we also do account the cultural differences in the way government is set up, and that’s the issue with exporting Democracy, it doesn’t work the same everywhere, and as Russia has shown, it can be disastrous to a nation (even with the help of top West Economists). While Russia was never as bad as Iraq, the future of Russian Democracy is uncertain, and just in comparison how much worse can it be in Iraq?
