Is This Worth Flashing? Yet Another Portfolio Design By Flash Gordon

Here’s a new layout I came up with for my portfolio site. I can’t decide whether to have those four sections as the actual sections with scrollpanes for content, or to make them big buttons and have some funky transitions.Waht do you think? Is this design worth carrying on with?

I think it would be best to have them as big buttons with a little teaser image or text in each. And yes, I’d like to see some funky transitions. If you were to go with the first idea of displaying all the content all at once, it might be a bit too much.
I think the design could turn out really nice, but I think it could use a little more refinement. The headers on the buttons create too much contrast where the solid bg ends and boarders on the scan lines. I’d try shading that area or fading the scan lines out as they approach the boarder. Also, I think there are too many scan lines going in too many directions. Makes my eyes strain a bit.

How about this version? Scanlines all one way and more consistent borders. Shadows over content boxes to show it is behind.

Hey man that looks pretty spiffy. Good job.

Bump!

i rekon make the text a lot smaller and leave the icons big

Mmm…I like the big text…maybe I could try it. Are the colours doing it for everyone? I like them but I’m not sure if they’re to anyone else’s taste.

yeh colours are nice

I think it’s real cool, Flash it up!

Right o.

I love it, it’s simple but it works really well! There’s so much fun stuff you could do with that with flash. I liked the light blue for the border of the body rather than the white, but the white works better for the navigation.

With the white you can have more consistent borders. Thanks for the compliments and suggestions guys. This is getting Flashed tomorrow.

I started Flashing it up and just want to see if you guys think this is the right direction.

What’s the verdict?

Hmmm…I like everything except the content in the boxes. I just think you could do so much more with that space. Mask out some nice pictures, or a another color with some sleek imagery/animation. The text was vaugely hard to read on the background as well.
Everything else, the sounds, the animation (oh so smooth), mouseovers, ect. looks great!

It looks really good so far!

I agree with Wanyo on this point. There seems to be alot more you could do with the content in the boxes. I’d like to see some masked pictures or a fade in of text.

Also, the text descritions should be centered in the box, too high at the top and too much room at the bottom.

And I know this is a nitpick, but I feel it sounds better “What can I make for you?” instead of “What can I make you?” The first implies you are doing something for someone and the second makes it sound like you are changing the person.

Thanks guys I’ll see what I can do with the boxes. Masked pictures eh? Of what?

Pete//The idea of the slogan is that a good website can really make a person. So I’m both saying ‘What can I make for you?’ and ‘What can I make you into?’.

I think it looks great, best work i’ve seen from you yet. I also really like the content boxes, not sure if i’d change them IMO.

I like them too. That makes two against two. Next person to say something about the content boxes swings it.

i like the informal style of the content… but i think some small thumbs of ure work are needed to draw the viewer into a section

Okay, I know this is S&C but this question relates to my site. How do I get it so that, when I click, say, ‘Portfolio’, the closing transition of the main menu plays, and then the opening transition of the section plays? The problem is that the buttons are in an externally loaded file.
