Jpeg compression

Ok, Im putting some magazine articles that I scanned on the web. Im gonna make them an adobe pdf file, and I need to know the best way to compress them. Scanned, theyre about 24 megs a piece. I used photoshop and saved them for web to get them down to about 100 kb a piece, but the pictures with text is all messed up. Anyone know of a program, or anything that can compress jpegs really well without distorting too much of it? Thanks in advance

If you have Photoshop, you probably have Image Ready. Fire up image ready and compress your jpeg in there. Configure the view to show the original image and compressed image (click on the “2-Up” tab). In the “Optimize” window (Window > Optimize), play with the settings until you come to a compromise between file size and quality.
