folks, can anyone tell me how i can possibly compress my flash file to a smaller size? i’m using some jpegs, but when i try to set the jpeg quality in the publish settings to a lower setting…it shows no effect to either the jpegs or the file size. PLEASE HELP!! Thanks!!
if you’ve tried all the usual, you should try loading your images dynamically as you need them. You could make seperate .swf files and load them into a clip like in this tut by voetsjeoba or whatever his name is. sorry, I’m tired.
kook, have you tried optimizing those jpegs outside of flash like in photoshop? You should optimize them in photoshop and them import them into flash.
Flash has a setting (which you can get to by looking at the properties of a bitmap from the library) that allows you to use either the default compression of the file or Flash’s compression. If you bring in a jpg I believe the default is for Flash to use that jpegs compression despite Flash’s own settings in the publish settings dialog. If you want to follow that copression setting, you would need to specify that for the bitmap in the library. If you DO do that, however, dont compress them at all before bringing them into Flash. That would just mean compression on top of compression which isnt a good thing. I think electrongeek’s suggestion may be better though since it gives you compression controls for each image and not a global Flash compression for all. Just use Photoshop/Imageready or Fireworks to compress each image to a tolerable compression and update each in Flash.
