Kazaa Rant & XP HELP

It seriously KILLs your system, i installed kazaa latest version and it had weird links installed on my system in the matter of minutes, allover. Search bars, default pages, desktop icons…ENDLESS CRAP.

I uninstalled Kazaa then, but all the crap was left there to ruin my system, i tried to run spyware but somehow it used to disappear after popping up, then i thought its something starting in the background but when I tried to run msconf or even enter the registry, it disappeared the same way (like something is blocking these things to start) anyway i tried to repair XP…it wont work.

I re-installed it but somehow free offers never got erased.Tried formatting my HDD using windows 98 bootable cd and then installing 98 but it just did’nt work either as setup got stuck after restarting.FINALLY i booted my system from windows 2000 professional cd, formatted c drive with its setup, installed 2000 pro and upgraded it to XP.

It seems to be working FINE!! I hate Kazaa, plz dont install it…specially the latest version.

XP HELP

Well Guys i have made users and checked the option of welcome screen but it just logs on to the default (ALL USER) account without showing the welcome screen, is it because i made no users when i installed 2000 and later upgraded it that this is not working?

Thanks for Listening

Yeh i do agree with you andrew that BT has an advantage over other P2P networks as some popular files would be on BT and not for exmaple, kazza where it has to filter down.

I wouldn’t discount it completely though, when a popular file appears on ordinary p2p networks and thousands of people are all trying to download it, you can be stuck in a queue for weeks, even months before you even start the download.

this doesnt happen on kazza lite which has this has an advantage. You select Unlimted Paricipation level which will give your 1st pritorty to getting that file so other people with the normal kazza cant get the file before you.

Bittorrent works differently in that you don’t have to have the complete file to share it. You start sharing the file even when you’ve only got a small amount of it. This means a popular file is much easier to get hold of because you can download it from anyone else who is also downloading it at the time even if you can’t connect to the person holding the original complete file.

Also bittorrent downloads pieces of a file in a random order rather than sequentially. This means that if you had 10 people each with 5Mbs of the a 20Mb file you’ve a fair chance of being able to get the complete file from them without ever connecting to someone with the complete file as they’ll each have different peices.

kazaa lite works the same way too. When you try and find a file it will list a number of users and it will dlwd kbs from one person and from another and after it will combne the kbs to form the file.

cheers.

yeah but you’re also competing with with loads of other kazaa lite users. From my experience of using Kazaa lite I still seem to end up queueing endlessly for some files, with bit torrent you don’t ever have to que (okay it probably is possible to be queued but very unlikly)

true but you’re only downloading from users with the complete file unlike bt. Its not uncommon to have a file being seeded by 3 users and downloaded by 1000. In those circumstances kazaa would have a choice of 3 users to d/l from, bt would have a choice of 1003

hehe, don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to bicker about it, I’m perfectly willing to accept I may be wrong, but I started off using kazaa lite++ and was converted to bittorrent. Kazaa is easily better for getting hold of harder-to-find files, bittorrent tends only to have more recent files. (-:
