Kinda vintage look

hey guys,

im working on a portfolio site right now for myself. im trying to achieve a sort of vintage look to it. right now there isnt much to it but you can see the overal structure.

tell me what you like, what you dont like, and maybe what you would like to see!

almost 30 views and not one reply? is it that bad?

framerate on menu slider seems low or the animation is sluggish. not a big fan of an entirely photorealistic interface and site but this has potential because it isn’t like a photo of a bulleting board like some are. maybe sharper images of the vintage artwork on top.

it’s just sort of hodge-podge. lots of little things that on their own are nice, but they don’t flow together. i’d like to see the flash w/a transparent bg and put the brown pattern as the html bg.

Yeah… Everything seems to be too vintage for the vintage itself! Make it look tidier and definitely the brown background should be the background for the HTML page… All in all a very original effort but as happens to the best of us… Needs improvements!

Also, the white background doesn’t do the site any justice.

that background is by no means going to be part of the finished product! i just wanted to see what it looked like lol.

as far as transparent background for the flash do you guys think that is the best way to fix that?(because of compatibility issues)

i think the background change has improved it a lot. if this is a personal site w/a portfolio, i don’t know how appropriate it is to have those things at the top. the blue box in the center is poor quality. but not like poor quality=good vintage, it’s just sort of grainy and pixelated.

I think all the stuff needs to be inside something. (I’m talking about the new version btw) It doesn’t look like a websit to me. More like a couple of pictures stuck to someones wall. The menu is very nice.:thumb: I think you should make a ‘site area’ (basically a fancy box) themed like the menu. You know, do the corners like the top and bottom of the menu and have some nice walnut wood going all over the place.

I see the look you are going for, however everything is off centered in an odd way at least on my comp. Teh two antiques holding up the menubox, doesn’t match the transparent box slider. Go with a more sephia look, and don’t overkill the antique look. But it’s a good idea just some fine tuning will make it more composed and less thrown together. Good Luck

menu is very nice, so is background…not feeling the rest…try to integrate the menu with the main body i rekon…ie with colour, common shapes

I like the menu a lot but I think it would look better with an art deco type font. It looks like you’re going for a 1920’s art deco style anyway.

I think it looks good but I think your largest problem is it has no depth to it at all… just looks plain and flat. Maybe put some shadowing in it, just kinda seems like 3 seperate elements floating on one page. I know it’s prolly not a finished design yet… I like it though, good start.

ok i’ve added a frame and some shading and shadows to it.

its just a picture at the moment, i wasnt going through the hassle of flashing it if it looks stupid

(edit) after looking at it in a browser i see that the frame is not aligned very well if you guys think its worth while to keep i’ll fix that for the final product.
