I’m almost finished with my portfolio site. there are some alignment issues but I would like to know what you guys think, the layout, design?? good or bad, or if it just sucks overall, please tell me =) and if there is anything that i should improve or change…
The site is put together well. I really like your buttons on the bottom, those are pretty sharp. The footers are also cool. Transition works really well too! I like the photos and your charcoal drawings.
I’m not crazy about your color scheme though. IMO I am not a fan of black and red or black and pink in a design. Esp. Black, gray red and pink. Black makes red REALLY stand out and if the design isn’t strong enough, than I don’t feel it works well. I would change that up.
Also, the gray behind your buttons with those TV lines, get rid of the lines, I would make it the same color as the gray on the sides. I think everything needs to be consistant in terms of color, so I would keep those the same. Or if you want to keep those lines, put them in the side grays too. But I would get rid of them.
It’s coming along though, I think with a little more work it could be pretty sweet.
pete - thank you for your reply, greatly appreciated, i was starting to become extrememly discouraged with it. so far the site looks good except the color concept? so do you think that everything inside the “box” (content, buttons, etc) works well but everything outside (dots, pinks bars, lines, etc) needs to be worked on?? cause i do like the pink and black b/c i have seen some sites use the color scheme so id like to stick with it, all though you don’t like it, do you have any ideas on how i could improve it??
ahhh thanks harm, i didnt even notice that, will be fixing that ASAP…so basically you’re also agreeing that everything outside the content isn’t good? what would you suggest on how i improve this?
I think that’s better than what you had, yeah. Still, the background color doesn’t go with the rest of your site. In Mozilla you have a gray background and in IE you have a black one. Black looks alot better. Also in Mozilla your intro page looks fine, in IE its all blue and looks WAY different.
The web links don’t work. They were’t put in correctly.
The content and buttons are fine. I think that part looks pretty nice.
hmm, i didn’t see any difference between firefox and ie…
anyways, here’s something you might like to add for all the people watching your site with higher res than 1024x768. the following code will center your flash site in the middle of the screen.
just replace anything in your “AG.html” from the opening to the closing <table>-tag:
protagonist… i understand what u said but im not sure if i applied it correctly, could you please check it?
pete… i do know about the links, i will fix those but i gotta fix the layout first =) thats strange that ur seeing different colors b/c ive had people on PC and Mac check, hmmm… do u know why you’re seeing blue? :h:
I can’t read the grey on grey text on several of your pages (resume, motion graphics, web design & cd-rom)
the buttons in the drawing section are malfunctioning, roll-over reveal doesn’t work.
I like the layout but find the content looks small in 1024x768 with so much real-estate why not take advantage of it? I think the black makes it seem smaller as well… what about a satin like tiled background? or some way of giving the bg texture? The thumbnail buttons are cool, but don’t seem to add anything to the overall navigation of the site, as the images are too small to describe the content, or draw the eye. I’d make them larger and use an alpha fade <from say 20% - 100> instead of the opaque grey. or better yet, do a search for the brightnessOffset function here in the forums, it’s a great eye candy effect… oh and reskin the preloader, maybe something round, to stick with your transition?
3rdeye… thanks for the feedback, it sounds like i have a few nice elements but nothing works as a whole?? =( i’ll look into the brightnessOffset and preloader, lol not sure if it will work cause i dont know to much AS but we’ll try it, thanks
just find and delete the red parts of code in your AG.html-file. these are leftovers from your table. you don’t need the table anymore since your flash is now positioned within a layer. generally, i prefer layers to tables for any kind of layout since it’s way more flexible…(best is to combine layers with css)
btw: you can center your splash page the same way, but i’ll let you figure out how yourself
heh, sorry 'bout the tone, I didn’t mean that at all… I think it’s a very cohesive design… aside from the AS errors the only thing that matters is if you are happy with it… Obviously you have alot of design experience and it shows, I guess I simply meant to point a few items I found that didn’t ‘gel’ with your theme… not that other way 'round. as for AS help, there’s a ton of ppl on this site to help!
oh i could hug you 3rdeye =) i understand my AS errors but thats an easy fix, i hope at the end, im more nervous about the layout and how the navigation is set up, the previous layout i had, it looked like i was a “beginner” and i dont think i am but it shows, inwhich im trying to not show that, lol thankyou for ur opinion and help, im gonna try to play around some more with it tonight… =)
The colors on your splash page ( http://www.avidgraphics.net/ ) look so much better than the actual flash site ( Black/Pink/Grey )
I agree w/ “The Pete One”

…Just my .02
Overall I’d say the site is put together very well, I like the navigation and the transitions.
