Just started my new site, and i want opinions before i do something that will take ages to change back.
the actual thing will be centered, the menu bar will have links it, there will be a randomly loading background (i’m on 56k and couldnt be bothered to upload the pictures), i’ll probly get rid of the squares in each corner (i just put them thare to see where the corners were), and there will be a preloader.
so basically i just want feedback on the menu bar, e.g. different colours i should use for it, a different place i should put it in, etc.
Well mate, you don’t have much to comment on just yet.
Your colors in the menu don’t really work together. Get inspiration from magazines and the TV. Works for me.
The menu has a sharp corner on the top right and bottom right side. This is from the bar behind it. The menu looks a bit odd but then there isn’t anything else on the page so it might look fine when you have more to show??
I would get rid of the squares for sure. If you do keep them, delete the outline to them and the circles. Back in Flash 2 I was always told to delete outlines you don’t need and that includes hit areas too.
Thanks. I didnt know what colours to use to i just chose some at random to show what it would be like.
i’ve just uploaded some more pictures and they’re a lot smaller filesize (i forgot they were saved at full quality)
i know it’s unfinished; but it well… looks unfinished.
what i mean by this is that there is no refinement to it. try adding a border or something to define the edge of the movie, since the background images all look kinda jagged around the edges.
the navigation doesn’t really seem to suit your background images, and they are quite low quality and uninteresting. your navigation has tons of potential though!
I like the idea behind the navigation, and heres my thought.
Pick one of the dominant colors from the background, and then just use different shades and tints of that color in the menu.
For instance you could have it go Dark Brown:Light Brown:Brown:Semi-Light Brown:Semi-dark Brown or something similar, it would look much nice I think
I also doesnt have to be a dominant color, if you want to emphasize something on the picture that has a color that isnt anywhere else, use that color, it will draw attention to that part of the image.

keep up the good work! **
thanks. i wasnt sure what to put to finish off the edges. i thaught about putting a border around but didnt want it to feel too enclosed. I made the pictures lower quality so that people with 56k could go on it, and the reason their boring is cos i took them myself.
I really like the navigation too but i cant think of what to put with it.
thanks a lot for your feedback

Just a thought **
thanks for your feedback.
i onyl just worked out how to do the navigation after learning a bit of actionscript. So you think i should use different shades of blue inside the navigation, as blue is the background colour?
i like the idea of picking colours that suit the picture, but as all of the picture are random i would have to find a way of matching the colours with the pictures.
Without sounding harsh, why don’t you just use this as a playground for your Flash skills? You have grasped some good AS and animating skills but you need to work on your Design skills now.
E.G. the Images are to in your face at the moment. They need to be dropped back and or not taking up so much of the stage. I could go on [as usual] but it’s something you need to sort out yourself
thnx kel.
well i had loads of swf’s with bits in and i wanted to put them into one thing.
I wanted to have the images as the background, and then have windows over the top.
Do you think that the pictures would still look in your face if they had semi-transparent windows over the top?
Dont worry about sounding harsh. if its crap its crap, i’ll just do something else instead.
If it’s crap, trust me I would just come out and say it.
Have a look around at how others have done it. Look in magazines too. If it were in print would it be too hard to read? I think it would. Drop them back, have them all the same size and then take the next step
