LAN settings

I want to find out my LAN settings for the net, but i cant access them through IE becuase my system admin has disabled it. Anyone else know of a clever way to view LAN settings?

(im doing this so i can bypass the compnay firewall and use MSN 6)

please help!

What settings do you want to find?

Cheers!

He wants the proxy server address + port to connect to the internet via a LAN. (HTTP-proxy)

Via IE: Tools - Internet Options - Connections - LAN SETTINGS.
But that’s been disabled.

Ahhh I am not sure then. Besides, it would prove diffacult to bypass the company firewall if they have it set up properly. Good luck with that.

Cheers!

i need a LOT of luck. Im willing to do a little hacking! theres gotta be some clever person out there who can help me…

why don’t you just ask your company about MSN 6. it wouldn’t hurt :-\

company policy says i can’t use IM software. My manager says he doesn’t care what i do because we have no work at the moment. So long i dont cause any damage my manager is fine with me using whatever i want. If only i could get past the firewall!

I think it’s time to don a tight outfit and high heels and seduce the administrator

Personally, I’d be careful. They could fire you for hacking the system, and that would really hurt the resume of someone who works in the computer industry. It’s just not worth it, the manager’s boss could come in, or the manager could get divorced tomorrow and get mad and fire you. Just call the person from the company phone.

Ask it to the administrator and say your manager think it’s alright. It’s no lie, right?

hmmmm…i’m sure you could change some settings in the registry. BACKUP THE REGISTRY BEFORE MAKING ANY CHANGES!!!

go to start–>run and type “regedit”

to backup the registry go to file–>export and save a copy on your desktop.

now, i’m not sure where these settings are exactly, but they’re prolly under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, software, microsoft, windows, current version, internet settings or something like that…you would just have to mess around with it to find out.

also, if you have windows xp pro, you can go to start–>run and type “gpedit.msc” and you can change a whole bunch of things.

hope this helps

Listen to Nali… He speaks good sense for a change (j/k Nali)

Is your job worth IM? If your company has a policy against IM, then don’t try to get around it…

IM’s are evil, and open up a network to all kinds of crap… plus once installed, it is extremely difficult to get production out of the employees (give it to one, you must give it to all) …

just do what i do at work: post at kF and play minesweeper. i’m pretty sure your firewall can’t block that

You can’t get around it bro. At least not easily. MSN messenger traffic goes through on port 1863, and that port is most likely disabled on your firewall. Since you are behind a firewall, all network traffic that goes to your computer from the internet has to go through the firewall. That’s all she wrote. Sorry :frowning:

you are allowed to surf the web right? (using port 80, 8080).
What you could do is to setup a proxy like at home or something, route your connection to your proxy and surf through your computer. Ill send you more specific information soon.

Another way is to use a remote controlling device, but it’s really slow so it’s not a good choice.

Or, if you just want to know your IP, or your LAN IP just open the start menu -> run -> ipconfig OR more specific information smenu -> run -> ipconfig/all.

You could also use a program that listens to your companies ports and see wich are open and those who are not.

BTW, is their a admin account on your comp but you can’t access it?

If their is one, you can copy the .SAM files from the windows directory through DOS onto a floppy disk, take it back home, run a program hrrmm illegal?! :stuck_out_tongue: (wont give it out) that would crack the files down until you got the password to the account.

Yeah, that would work. Pain in the *** though.

If you did this on my network, I would have you put up for review. This is major abuse of a companies’ network.

And I also don’t feel this is a good topic for KirupaForums.

“And where did you learn how to do this?”

-“Oh Kirupaforums”

or some other response, much less countless other network admins seeing this thread continue.

Yep, I think it’s pretty stupid to be risking your job and the ability to get future jobs working on a network just so you can talk to someone on the internet. You can just as easily call them, or just talk with PM’s in this forum or another.
