Laptop as an alarm clock

I want to use my laptop as an alarm clock. What I mean by this is I want iTunes to play a song really LOUD so I can wake up in the morning. I beed skipping classes because I wake up late everyday. Is there a way to do this?

  1. Leave your laptop on, in Scheduler, set a mp3 file to start at x time and turn the volume up before you goto bed.

  2. Check your BIOS for startup options, I make my laptop autoboot at 8AM every weekday so by the time I’m showered and dressed, it’s all ready to go (of course that’d mean you’re going to want to setup a mp3 file to play on every boot).

As to how specifically to tell iTunes to play, there might be command prompt scripts. Otherwise, if iTunes is your default player, you can simply put the .mp3 file to startup.

Schedule some song to play at a given time.
I did this, but I left the computer on all the time, so at a given time it just executed a certain file.

All I had to do is regulate the sound volume before I went to bed.

Scheduled Tasks are your friend!

I’ve never tried to allow programs to wake up the computer from shut off state.

This could be done if you have a pet like a cat that like to walk over your keyboard in the morning. Just put the opening song to what you want after you choose in the BIOS that the computer is suposed to be able to turn on from keyboard.

If iTunnes has a command line interface, then just put that to be executed.
I think it should work. e.g.: "[\Tcha\iTunes\app.exe](file://\Tcha\iTunes\app.exe) \Muzak ching.ogg"
Never used iTunnes so don’t stress that out, and windows is rarely my friend. So use the Scheduled Tasks option.

i’ve been using alarm clock 1.0 for years and it works like a charm. like you wanted, i blast the music to wake myself up. it’s great except the 1 time i had it set to play 99 Problems, mostly because the opening is jay-z yelling, which when you’re sound asleep tends to scare the hell out of you. i jumped out of bed and screamed “holy ****!” b/c i thought i was being robbed. good times.

basically you set the alarm, turn up your speakers before you go to bed and you’re set.
