Learning Design?

It sounds a bit odd, but is it possible to learn design? The thing is, it varies, and is in the end a matter of opinion, so it’s not a clean cut “remember this” and “do this in that situation”.

However, I recently (yes, quite recently, really. I know I’m slow in that area…) how much of a difference gradients make, and they give things a different “feel”, and usually look a lot nicer than plain colors. I have also heard from some that certain colors go together, while others do not.

Sadly, the other half of my brain (the design half) forgot to ship when I was born, and is still on backorder. I can’t even draw a stick figure without making him want to kill himself to rid the world of ugly.

Until that far off day when the Company finally sends me the other half of my brain, are there any sites that teach key points on how to make things “look nicer”?

Maybe I can ask TimmyTots to teach me.
