if i am loading .swf’s into an empty movie clip or to into level 0, does flash automatically remove the existing movie? Or do I have have to remove it using actionscript?

Don’t like to state the obvious, but if you are loading a movie into an empty movie clip there is no movie to remove…lol!!
However, on a more serious note, yes, if you load in a movie it will remove any movie that is already in the _level you are loading into.
