Hi there, I’m working on a corporate identity which I’m hoping to use for my own portfolio site and for freelance work. At present I’m taking my time and putting plenty of thought into the whole development, I’m not going to proceed onto the next step of setting everything up until I’ve covered the essentials obviously. So at the moment I’m concentrating on the logo/identity, and once that’s done I’ll move on from there.
Could use some direction and input from established freelancers here, I’m working at present on the basis of using “Avernal Designs” although I’m still not sure on the “Designs” part. It’s functional enough but it could probably stand to sound a bit fancier. Below are a series of logotype doodles, please bear in mind none of these are what I’d consider finished logos or neccesarily even going to be used, it’s more concept at this stage and I’m experimenting with shape mainly to find something I like that I think defines what I’m after. Bearing that in mind if people could take a look and provide a little advice and direction, or maybe even some ideas to further develop on one of the images, that would be greatly appreciated.
av_logo_concept_01.gif - Probably the closest to a logotype so far, I like the style and the sharp angles and points on it but due to their weight they really wouldn’t retain as much impact when scaled down I imagine. Something along these lines but made a little simpler would be great. The main problem is that with certain shapes similar to those seen here contained within a circular frame it starts to look a little too much like a pentagram, which as far as theming is concerned is bang on - Avernal would essentially mean “of the underworld”, but I don’t really want to go using satanic looking symbols for a corporate identity since that would be a pretty stupid move and likely scare off potential clients.
av_logo_concept_02.gif - This is just a shape experiment. With this one I like the idea of a bat-like shape making up part of the “A” and also representing “V” quite well, the bat is certainly keeping in theme and not too much as described above. It’s missing something though and doesn’t really work as a logo as it stands.
av_logo_concept_03.gif - Not even being considered for logotype use, but I really like the shape here, it’s basically a tesselation of the bat shape above to produce an interesting symbol but it doesn’t have much relevance to the subject matter unfortunately. Gives people an idea of the sort of design I’d like to achieve in the finished logo though and suggestions along those lines would be fantastic.
