I primarily use a Mac (for flash, web develpment graphic design work) and I have a toshiba laptop for business stuff. While I know how to keep my Mac running like a top (basically I turn it on and turn it off!) I know nothing about the kind of steps one should take to keep a pc running smoothly. Also, the thing never really seemed to give me any decent kind of performance. It seems like simple tasks like opening and closing applications have always dragged on and on. I figured that people at Kirupa would probably be above average in this department and wouldn’t mind giving some advice on what to look for… anyhow, here’s my laptop specs.
toshiba sattelite 2415-s205
pentium 4 mobile
1.2 ghz
512mb ram
windows xp (home edition)
I realize that’s not a sweet machine or anything, but I expect WAY better performance than I’m getting! i’m not even trying to run memory intensive stuff on this machine (microsoft Office, Firefox and thunderbird mostly) This thing just seems like a real dog. My mac is two years older, 867mhz dual processor and kicks the living s**t out of this thing! Seems like I should be able to have a “fluid” computing experience on both platforms… i’m sure it’ just cuz i grew up on macs and have never used a pc i’m ignorant of what I need to check/do… thanks for any suggestions!
