A few months ago I made a post regarding setting up a web design business in Manchester, United Kingdom. This is going well, but this won’t be until March of 2008 due to time and schedule restrictions. In the meantime I’ve undertaken a few projects to develop a portfolio.
As some of you know, I’m completely out of my depth when it comes to backend systems due to focusing on graphics predominantly. I’m looking to partner up with one or two PHP coders in the Manchester area (or somewhere close in the North West, England) to complete a few projects and help develop each other’s portfolios. I do have a PHP coder for smaller scale jobs who is very reliable, but 2 of these projects require eCommerce implementation.
The first project is creating a site for a well known retail outlet in the North West selling ‘adult films and items’, so candidates must be over 18 for legal reasons. Although the job may not expose you directly to the items in question, it will be something you may need to preview to see if the site is working and if the site requires maintanance in future. The job requires either a custom built shopping cart backend (with myself designing the front end graphics and product images). There job specification is as follows:
[]The website will contain the following areas: Home, My Account, Browse, About, Help, Contact, Privacy, Sitemap. This means that there will be at least 6 or more pages that are static that will need to be updated via the backend CMS. There will most likely be more areas that need to be added, so ability to add extra pages automatically that can be custom placed within the top menu is necessary.

[]The site requires eCommerce as a must. The Browse page will display the categories available and the icons for those categories. Once inside the category, the items will be displayed much like eBay (each new item on a horizontal row, with thumbnail, Title, Price, Add to Basket button etc, linking to a full page with larger image and a full description and Add to Basket option.)

[]Obviously, the eCommerce means that payment will be taken. I’m not expecting any SSL security certificates as that will take far too long, but I want the system to be as secure as possible. It will be handling credit/debit transactions, it will most likely be straight into a Paypal account so PayPal configuring for the account will be necessary. If possible I would like it so the customer does not require a Paypal account to purchase anything, but if they have one they can log into it.

[]This CMS must be built so that it is simple and as easy as possible for the End User to operate. I will be on hand to help out the End User but it really shouldn’t come to that if the system works well enough.
This is really just a taster project, the upcoming ones are a lot larger. As so I’m only really looking to invest up to £250-300 into one coder for this project. If it goes well, brilliant. I have some more diverse projects that I can then afford to trust the coder with that will be higher paying. I’ve quoted this project as taking roughly a month to fully complete, which gives time for us to sit down and discuss the details first, then gives you a around 28 days from the start to complete it. Yes, £250-300 for a months work may sound low, but I know this won’t be something you will concentrate on 9-5 everyday. If you do decide to do it 9-5 and have it done within a week, then thats even better - as soon as it is complete, we can meet up and I’ll pay you by cash or cheque, whichevers best.
Ideally the coder will be from the Manchester area (I’m willing to stretch to North West and surrounding area, but the Manchester area would be best as I’d like to meet anyone face to face to discuss the project, and then one or two times after to discuss progression over a drink). As I said, and I’m being completely honest about this, this project is primarily about me seeing how you work and the work you can produce. As I also said, I have a good few projects lined up that I have quoted for and put good allowance in for the coders payment via rates. If this project goes well, which I’m hoping it will, I will be more than happy to introduce the coder into the more high-scale jobs that I have lined up and I will be more than happy to give you a very positive Job Reference.
If you are from Manchester or surrounding area, reply to this topic and PM me your name, location in Manchester (or elsewhere) and a contact telephone number. I will be free this Saturday and Sunday, if there are any potential applicants that would be available to meetup on those days to discuss, include that in the PM.
Unfortunately, I won’t be outsourcing this as freelance work to anyone outside the North of England. Sorry guys, but this is a project I need to oversee from start to end, I can’t afford any messups on this one.
Applications for this project stop Sunday night, so the earlier the better.
