So after finally going through all of the posts and figuring out what has been going in the past 3 years since I’ve been gone, I have been rather amused by everything.
I can’t believe that nothing has really changed. Everyone comes on, posts their questions, a couple of lines down someone answers them with code and “done”. Or they post an .fla and they have someone else fix their problems.
I think this all stems down to the fact that we are either just giving in to these people or there isn’t enough resources out there (which I highly doubt!)…
So in deciding this, I believe that we need to take everyone back to “base 1”. I really don’t think half of the people that are asking these questions really have a clue what they are doing in terms of where to start and how to get to the finish. I’m not saying you should be able to know “everything” about the game, but in retrospect, I think you should know a little bit about programming before you start developing a game.
On top of this, I don’t believe that a majority of the people asking questions have a clue on the mathematical operations and formulas necessary to complete a well balanced, finished game.
So, instead of just sitting here and griping about it, I think we all need to take a step back into Mathematical Operations & Formulas 101. And I think I mean everyone. There are three things that you **need **to know about before you can become a lean, mean game programming machine.
- Mathematical Operations & Formulas (Math, Geometry, Physics and Trig)
- Basic Programming Skills (if you don’t know what a function is or know what a listener is, you should probably look those up before you even start to draw your characters)
- Basic Game Programming Knowledge (something not commonly known, but… we need unique and descriptive information about your problem when you ask us questions about it, we need you to be descriptive and this is where it will help)
I will teach everyone a lot of these things through the next month or two. Now, don’t hold me to every single tutorial, but if someone notices that I go missing for a little bit, just shoot me an email via : ai_marz at hotmail dot com asking me to get back on track.
