Analysts believe Macromedia is ripe for acquistion. Revenue for the most recent four quarters has been flat while net income is in the red. Macromedia reported an $11.6m net loss, down from $70.7m, for the fiscal quarter to September 30 on revenue that fell 2.2% to $85.4m. For the six months period, Macromedia has narrowed its loss from $182.4m to $13.6m while revenue fell 3.4% to $169m.
why is it such a big deal? what has mirosoft done to you? look, if it werent for Gates, we would be on 8-bit machines looking at command promt and not a sleek OSX or Win. XP, hell the guy almost invented the OS as we know it. As long as Macromedia keeps the same name and continues to build nice heathy proggies i dont care who owns them…even if it is a monopoly.
Mdipi, I guess you haven’t heard about Palladium…up till now, I don’t have a problem with Microsoft at all, but the fact that Gates is trying to push out Palladium is a threat to how we choose to use our computers.

**wow, i didnt read it the first time, but now i am glad i read some of it. i got to the point of the MP3s and then i looked like this guy:angry: **
hahah I’m sure this is just one of many of Microsofts dark secrets…
Synopsis…lol, was that guy actually richer? wow i can’t belive someone is richer than gates even if it is a movie!!
mdipi, i don’t think it was all microsoft or gates who pushed the computer revolution, it was gonna happen one way or another, he just cashed in big time!! now, people say he is preventing the evolution of computers since he controls everything, how can you have fair competition when 1 person or company controls everything. without competition, the people who control the monopoly have no reason to push forward as they would if they had to compete with someone. for example, just look at ATI vs Nvidia or AMD vs Intel. WE have benefited BIG time from those companies battling it out and it should be the same way in every industry.
I love Microsoft…hell they employ me. But I do not want them to buy macromedia. How in the hell are they losing money. Everybody and they momma has their software. Maybe that is why they stop selling Sitespring (man I loved that software :*( ) That palladium stuff is not cool. BUt I bet they will find a way to crack it. If it is man made then it definitely has flaws. Just like the xbox was supposed to be invincible and that thing is still gettin hacked.
The palladium thing is bad news. There would be some huge court cases before it takes off for sure. I dont see how anyonw would purchase a product that puts so much control in its makers hands.
I would revert to a 75MHz pentium and a 14.4 bps modem before I would conform. I am sickened by the whole thing.
I am sure the .mp3 thing is a main factor here. Maybe the record companies should look at thier price per CD,
It cost less than one cent to produce print lable and ship a CD. Yet it costs $15 in stores
That is insanity. I am not going to drop fifteen bucks for one song I heard on the radio when its a gamble if I would even like the rest of the CD.
I could go on with this on…but you see where I am going.
In theory this technology could be good for companies intellectual property rights, but for the goons here on Kirupa downloading .mp3’s like it going out of style and most likely using cracked apps from warez FTP servers…its bad news.

In addition to mp3s, Palladium spells the doom of the computer world as we know it. Do you love a certain small software company? Say goodbye to them - as well as freeware and shareware - as only big companies who can afford to pay Microsoft to allow their software to run on the new Palladium machines. Say goodbye to open source. Say goodbye to making Flash executables - as any executable running on the new machines will have to go through an anal cavity search.
Phil - I’m sure you’ll get a kick out of this. Microsoft as well as its friends in the government, will now have access to pretty much all the files in your computer. They can not only check for illegitimate software, they can also tag your for any “unsavory” content.
In the end, Palladium isn’t just an means to end piracy and stolen content. It means making the rich richer and the poor poorer. It’s like someone coming into your house, making all your decisions for you, and forcing you to use only their products.
Yeah, Microsoft has got to stop. With Palladium, we might as well be using 8 bit machines, because you will be able to do more on them then you can with machines that run Palladium.
And yes, actually Bill Gates did take the technology of the Windows OS from Apple. He straight up copied it when it first came out, then it just slowly developed into something else (through hired developers of course).
I love my Windows XP, but with Palladium… Microsoft will be my enemy. I don’t believe in Pirating software, so that is not what I have my gripe with. It is that the only software you will be able to use MUST be approved my microsoft. One of the great things about Windows today is the availability of free programs on the web that can do some great things that programs you have to pay for can do. With Palladium, all that will be gone. You will have to pay for every little thing you want to install because the companies that make them have to get it Microsoft Certified.
It is BULL!
I don’t know too much about Palladium myself, but I have heard things about it, and from what I hear, I don’t like it at all. It limits the freedom of having a computer.
If Microsoft buys Macromedia and also enables Palladium I think you will see a big shift in hard core users. Mac Land here i come. I will not stand around and give a company control of my machine. I wil lswithch to Leniux before i buy into this crap. If Mac is the only company that doesn’t switch to this then I sasy Mac all the way.
The reason Macromedia is in the red is every body has there software it’s just that 3/4 of the ppl didn’t pay for it. If ppl would stop pirating software then the price of it wouldn’t be so high. There would also be no need for this Palladium crap.
I tell you if this stuff comes online I will do everything to fight agaisnt it.
Companys want to start to put TV through the net. Imaging the censorship if your TV has to go through a machine with TCPA and Palladium. Once this starts they wil also get to your E-mail and every other document you have or want to keep secret on your machine. They talk about needing keys to access or recive certan files. I’m sure the government will get control over all the keys.
