I had fun playing with that as well. “Dance little man… dance. muhahahaha”.
As for being a mod. I disagree that you cannot get the role by asking. Our own Phil asked before he was invited in, and I think that the first three of us asked Kirupa (Dan, Vts, and myself) when the forum first started. We were like “you need some help?” he said yes, we were in. I guess that doesn’t really help now, things have changed… we have lots of mods.
I guess I just want to point out that there are no guerenties. You COULD become a mod if you asked for it… it’s just not really likely. We have however 5000 members. Considering how many mods there are for that many, it’s not really likely that a lot of people will become mods.
Best bet is:
A) Be helpful. Provide links whenever possible. Teach people how to use Flash.
B) Understand the nature of this forum and the direction we are attempting to move it. We want people who think at least close to the way kirupa thinks. Or at least that’s what I’ve always strived for when voting on mods.
C) Do not abuse people for their ignorance. Ignorance is a natural state of being. If I catch anyone disparaging a newb I will not only never vote for them, but I’ll likely follow you around being a pain in your butt in every post you make.
D) Add to this forum. Make a contribution of either tutorials, or information, or cool animations. (mostly tutorials)
E) Most importantly, be professional. We have fun here, and are not professional 100% of the time, but we all attempt to be so. This is a serious community, with international readership. It deserves to be taken seriously by members, mods, and prospective employers alike.
Well… that’s my take on being a mod. Now that I have said that I can say too that I fail to meet my own expectations of these things all along… so even a shleb like me can become a mod if you have the right connections.
