Bah, the first problem I have with my monitor since buying 3 years ago turns out to be a blown capacitor which causes the display to either a) create a scrolling bar of light/dark on the screen b) cause the display to look like it is bobbing in water or c) shake violently.
It looks like I need a new monitor. By by good old CRT.
