Movieclip problem

when i create a movieClip and have an animation in that movie clip then apply a goto and stop function to that movieclip in the actions layer the movie clip stops playing the aniamtion within it. any ideas? oh yeah the movieclip conatins an invisible button to atart the animation on rollover
