last night my laptop decided to stop working. It goes into a black screen saying windows didnt start up properly, then if i click start, or start with last good config, it goes into a loading screen, then after it loads, it flashes a blue screen for a second, then repeats the whole process. iv tryed turning off the computer a few times, and removed all the power, my dad says i just need to put in all the restart disks, but i have a lot of things on my comp i would like to save. is there anything i can do. plz help
Have you recently done any hardware changes or installed some new software?
Will it boot into safe mode? You usually can press F8 at startup and select this.
Also, if you can’t get your laptop to boot up properly and have another working computer around you could just go get a usb laptop hard drive enclosure. They are fairly cheap and should be available at any computer store. Then just remove your laptops hard drive put it in the enclosure and hook it up to a working machine. Then you can transfer all the files you want. Of course this might not work if it is your hard drive that is failing.
Backups are an excellent idea. Make sure to do them from now on.
Just install windows on the same windows folder without formatting it will repair whatever files are missing allowing you to boot up your computer again this way you can save your stuff and then format it and reinstall from scratch, if its not a hardware problem like Sebby mentioned
Is there any message in that bluescreen?.. Try to see it and tell us
@ seb, no nothing new
@ Gundark, it shows a list of files, but still repeats the process
@ grim, not sure how, it wont let me do anything
@ loyx after a halfhour i managed to get a few pictures, it says a problem has been detected, and it was shutdown to prevent damage, if you need more info i can try
Just perform a system repair. Is it xp or vista?
^Either way a system repair does the same thing it replaces all required windows files. Probably scratched the disc.
io put the xp disk into the comp, but nothing has happened yet, do i do something else??
Make sure your boot order looks for the CD ROM before the HDD on boot.
Typically F1 or F12 on the bios screen. It should say.
Hold F8 on a few and you can select the boot drive by hand (but all these keys vary from motherboard to motherboard).
ok im at the page where i can choose to repair, or install a fresh copy, i tryed to repair on an earlier page but had no luck, will installing a fresh copy just give me two installs of windows, or will it do the trick
Get a ubuntu live cd, copy all the important files over to a backup hard drive/burn to a disk. Then reinstall windows. Easiest fix I can think of.
i cant copy my files untill i can get into my comp
