I’ve been ranting to folks about my job, and about how the boss has no design eye. About how he continually calls designs as “wrong/bad” with only seeing a little of them. How he turns down good design ideas while approving horrendous ones. But I’ve not been able to show anyone just how true this is…until now.
A charge came down to redesign a website for an Atlanta Commercial Real Estate agent. They had done a design, but the guy was extremely unhappy with it. This is it:
The Current Design the client didn’t like
This guy has no property under a million dollars. He needs to look big. Wealthy. Exquisite. And so after spending all day, this is what I did:
Immediately - it was rejected. Not by the client, but by my boss. Why?
“This guy has big clients, we want him to look big. Your design is too friendly and inviting, not like his current site which is elegant and slick. I think I want what we alraedy have, but with something like big companies have - y’know, with lines and squares.”
::sigh::
But it’s a steady paycheck, and I have a STELLAR piece in my portfolio now
