I’m working on this new design for my personal website and I was wondering what you guys think so far! I could use a little feedback so any critique is welcome. I’m still at a stage where lots has to be done anyway :)!
Please check out my work so far at http://sarawinter.com/new/ right now only my weblog and photoalbum are working properly though! But I guess you get the idea.
I should add some preloaders and sounds. Still unsure whether to add background music or not though. Any ideas? Please let me know what you think so far!
I don’t think you necessarily need any background music per say, maybe a nice “nature” type ambient music would be alright. I think the site itself is a great design and works very well. You have a lot of good stuff going for it. Watch your text though, because some of it looks a little blurred and could be better if slightly adjusted. I wouldn’t add any sounds for buttons etc. (not really needed here) Oh and yeah, you def. need preloaders … just good practice to keep the viewer’s attention! Good stuff keep at it! :thumb:
Yeah I really like it too, nice little look going on IMO.
Its a shame in the blog the way the text all fades, but the pictures just “pop” up, I’d look into making them fade in to. Otherwise, I agree with everything boondock said, blurry text, preloaders and all.

I like it! I agree with BoonDock, add preloaders to the content and it’s good to go
I didn’t hear any background music, so either BoonDock is hearing stuff, or you took it out…
Thanks all for the compliments and the feedback! You guys certainly mentioned some things I can work on!
unclesond, you’re very right about the blog images that pop up where the text fades in. It is very annoying! I should take a good look into the blog still I guess. Right now I’ve got a simple <img src=“”> in a html textfield for displaying the blogimages. It’s probably not the best solution…
There’s no background music in it yet ;). I’m just toying with the idea. I like the idea Boondock offered, the nature type ambient music, that fits quite well with the design methinks. It’s probably gonna be either that or nothing :).
And yeah… the preloaders… I always save them for the last… but usually I never even get to finish my site, cause I like to create a new design! This time I’m gonna try real hard to finish though ;).
Nice site, I feel there is no need for back-ground music. Never understood why so many designers do that. Most times many have their own music going and there’s a conflict with two competing sounds, which can be annoying.
well aside from what has already been said… it’s a pretty good start.
a few things to mention and one to emphasize… emphasis on the preloaders
the mentions are… the <title> doesn’t really, well look good like that s a r a … doesn’t really portray the same “elegant and serine” feel of the site.
the sarawinter in Impact… definately drop that. and I’d say drop the techno text that’s above it too… so basically that whole part needs to be either dropped or changed.
and i’d either up the tweening speed or the frame rate…
Ummm I never said anything about music being played … I was just commenting on what music/ambient sound might fit … but not that she necessarily needed it :thumb:
that’s a good point I think. I merely just added a <title> because it’s better than the Untitled default, I just never thought about it too long ;). And I guess that’s obvious - well to you at least! Although a small detail, I’ll give it some more thought.
You seem to have read my mind ;)! I wasn’t completely satisfied with the display of the title yet… give that oone some more thought as well.
Is that because the horizontally sliding tabs are moving slow? Cause it’s a little choppy on my machine and I really should take a look at that as well. Or are there any other things why you think I should up the framerate?
