New site. Critiques please

I still think you should reduce the padding a little more in the blue nav section. And  I also still think that <hr> is out of place.

Also, on the footer, instead of a single white dashed line, why not try something like a dark green solid 3px border or something of the like? The dashed white border just looks kinda funky to me. But other than that it’s pretty good! :thumb2:

The left nav looks cramped in the center. Why not move it over to the left more so “Workforce Shortage” could be on one line?? Also the line height needs to be reduced some. (Really Really BIG Super Sub Link) is starting to look like three links instead of one.

not a bad start, it’s pretty cool. i think i would either extend the header to full-screen (bg-repeat) or reduce and center the footer, just so everything balances out.

I’ve decreased the subnav padding and prettied it up a little. Added the dark border to the bottom (good suggestion).
I tried to position a gradient .png over that marquee so it flowed in smooth, but it kept breaking my page and I couldn’t figure it out. :\ Any suggestions on how to position a small .png on the right side? Not super important I don’t guess…

I tried some backgrounds that lined up with the header but it all looked terrible. Any suggestions on how to extend that off?

Thanks for all your help on this site you guys.

+1 on the spacing of the nav links, the really long one’s look like separate links all together.

As for extending the header, use the green edges and repeat that. On the yellow bar take a 1px width from the middle of the bar to use. Take the ‘inner shadow’ effect out from the left and right sides of the yellow bar… ugh hard to explain… 10 minutes later… something like this (see attached image)…

Hope that helps :look:

I figured I would have to do something like that but was too lazy. The fact that it’s not even your site and you did it motivates me. :smirk:
I’ll have it fixed by mid-Monday.

Since I’m making the header/footer expand off the screen, should I make the footer the same color as the header or leave it lighter like that to add subtleness?

also make Larry’s name one -two pixel font or 0.02em larger in the footer

Larry can be reached via email at larry.ferguson@kctcs.edu or at (606) 326-2232.
^put this on a separate line

Really, you’re all just jealous of how creative my thread is. You see, with this thread, I’m going for the modeling, like-to-rowaboat look. You see, with this thread I’m trying to convey how I can hugely beneficially benefit productive employers.
</tots>

Seriously though, I was thinking about having bubble-tooltips on every single link.

Edit:
New project for my spare time, making a stylesheet that will tottify any standard HTML.

^ that would be sweet… and make sure the bubbles are hot pink and drop your font size to -15 em

When I finish these projects I’m working on now (day or 2) I’ll start on the Timmytot unbreakable CSS that will never-ever change. ever.

Edit:
From this

To this

I’m still pretty terrible. But thanks for the help guys.

big improvement. really is.

lol. Just heard from the client they want me to completely redesign it from scratch and make something grungey.
 ha! They asked for it to adhere to a web2.0 palette and told me they like this for so long. Sheesh.

It’s ok. This site looked like crap anyway. :bounce:

I’ll be posting the redesign tomorrow. Get your thinking hats out boys!

One bit of advice. Dont be afraid to venture out of the uniform boxy feel type site. That is what I am getting from your design. It seems too canned. Tastefully bend the grid and make it a bit more organic or dynamic.

grungy for a company named communicast

ignore them unless their demographic is based on teenagers or 40+ ex-rockers, ex-band groupies; and ex-Pfunk rockers, or even emo

yeah the guy probably just got some real bad advice from his 15 year old son… forgive them, they know not what they ask.

How many clients really know what they want, usually take a couple of rounds of mocks. Some times you have to stand your ground and challenge them or their decisions, your the expert that’s why they are coming to you.

Grunge can be tastefully done…btw. If I find the article I was reading I will post it.

Well, at first he just wanted somewhere to post them temporarily. That’s why I threw this together (my first try at Web2.0 crap). It adhered to a color palette they’d given me and told me to do everything in.

But now he’s decided he wants it to be integrated with the new site we’re getting after all.
So I have to design something like this:
http://clients.global-image.com/kctcs/

I posted this a while back for critique. Personally I don’t like it. But they said it tested well with all age groups. Eh. I’d like to see who ran that test… :\

Edit:  I sent my boss an email with a sketch of the idea I have in mind. The follow transcript is verbatim:
Him: “I think you are definitely on to something. It is grungy—which I like as well. I say, put on some Nirvana and move forward!
Me: “lol
Good choice Larry. Way to stay connected.

Wasn’t this one was it? (About 1/4 down)
