Kirupa is an EXCELLENT place to grow your knowledge of flash and learn ways to do things you’ve done the ‘difficult’ way previously… BUT… I get very frustrated when people come on the forum who know absolutely NOTHING and show no desire to learn, only to have a perfectly working .fla handed to them and then fixed by kirupians accordingly cause they dont even try to learn the code and how it works.

I think we should restrict handing out fla’s to ppl unless they show they have in interest in doing some sort of flash background reading or at least attempt to increase their knowledge and not just get it handed to them all the time… sorry if i sound bitter i just see so much of it and it gets frustrating to see all these crazy kirupians handing out their hard work to ppl who wont even f9 (if they knew what f9 did) to understand the code to manipulate it for their own reasons…
Some people will always be looking for a handout. If its not a Flash user its a bum on the street. So its your call if you throw the dollar or fix his .fla for him.
Typically I just dont pay attention to either.
Unless its a bum with a funny sign. I was in NYC last weekend and there was this drunken degenerate tool with a sign that said “TELL ME OFF FOR $2” - It was worth the two bucks let me tell you. I threw every f-bomb combonation while in his face telling him what a shatbag he was… I almost pissed myself I was laughing so hard. Money well spent when your out barhopping with your buddies.

Of late, There have indeed been a lot of the posts like you’re talking about - ‘I must have this fla’ and ‘who can do this for me?’. It’s very difficult, but I think we have to accept that by being two-way users of kirupa.com, we agree to helping some folks who won’t ‘give back’ - such is life. :sigh: For example, I think scotty has built, or at least greatly contributed to several hundred websites that feature dynamic galleries
And I don’t think there’s much the the mods here can do about it either.
I’ve learned a lot here, and continue to do so - and that is because people like you were generous enough to help and even if only half the users here give back, then there will always be a valuable resource here :beam:
So rise above it all - and know that not only do you have more knowledge than the ones we’re talking about, you’ve got more humanity too - and that’s important.

Yep. I have a rule when helping. I will point you in the right direction, or explain what you need to do… but if you don’t show interest in doing it yourself, you aren’t going to get much help from me. I’m not here to do someone elses work for them for free. If they can’t modify an open source .fla themselves, they need to take a step back and not get ahead of themselves. Sure everyone wants to have super cool flash sites and whatnot, but you have to start from the basics and work yourself up to that level… people are just too lazy and impatient to want to have to deal with that. Fortunately for me, that isn’t my problem
If I ever do supply a .fla it typically isn’t of exactly what they ask for, but rather a method that can be modified to do what they ask for.
I’ve been taken advantage of too many times, so I stopped letting it happen. Then I started to get cursed out on AIM from people who were mad that I wouldn’t do stuff for them… so I had to remove my name from the forum… and eventually stop using that name altogether (luckily for me it was just a name created for the forum).
Same here. I just ignore people that show no intention to learn, and just want to get their fla fixed by taking advantage of us. They start getting on my nerves even more when they’re amazed nobody is willing to do it. Pricks.

Wow, I hate people like that. “Here are my FLAs, this is the problem, fix it” Um, no? People don’t get that these are help forums, not run-to-these-forums-when-you-need-someone-to-do-your-work forums.

In most cases, that means:
“My client liked the game, how can I take that game, change a little and pass it off as my work?”
People also don’t get that any help here is offered free and voluntarily. No one is required to help anyone here. Of course it is encouraged for people to help, because if no one helped, this place wouldn’t be very… uh… helpful.
The way I see it, the more I help people, the better my chances of getting help when I need it because I’d like to think people would know I try to put forth an effort as well.
Sidenote:
It was once brought to my attention that people didn’t understand why the people at Mjau-Mjau charge for their ImageVuex files (http://www.imagevuex.com/). I was like… geez, look at all you get in this… you really think they put all that time/energy/work into this dynamic gallery to offer it for free?! I’m sure if the person complaining created it, they wouldn’t want to give it away to anyone for free.
I need a flash game like you did in your footer, just a little bigger and it’s urgent. Can you help me doing something like that? sorry, I don’t have money so I can’t pay. is that ok for you?

yeah, i got it, i was just saying, from the name of the thread, i was prepared to pass out the open source files i have from 2advanced… (yeah right, i wish!)
I’m probably one of these people but I try to work things out for myself. I would never ask anyone to just do something for me. I love tutorials and I usually try to modify them to suit my needs.
I agree with Voets. What gets me is the 1 post wonders who post things like:

You click the link and it turns out to be the Doom 3 site or something.
I have no rage. Just mild annoyance. I feel soryy for people like Voets, Scotty, NewHopeKenny, Sen, Digitalosophy and LostInBeta. They’re the resident experts so people expect them to just drop everything and help them.
