Notification Area not showing icons

ok, I’ve been having this problem for a couple of weeks now and am very confused. Nothing in the notification area shows up, I know I have tons of things there like trillian and servers and stuff but it’s completely blank. I’ve searched everywhere and can’t find anything!

has anybody else had this happen to them? I’m really desperate right now but don’t want to have to delete all my apps (they will take forever to get back) and that’s about my only requirement. :player: :book:

another problem I had the other day was all my audio was playing double speed! I mean everything, even aim and musicmatch, every application… I think my processor was confused but a restart fixed that one

I even took a screenshot to prove to you that I’m not just really stupid… :m:

Strange. Does this happen when you select a different desktop theme? Also, if you want, try deleting the files in your C:\Windows\Prefetch folder. Don’t empty your Recyling Bin though, for if that doesn’t fix your icon issue, you may want to restore those files back

oh yeah, I forgot to mention a day or so before this started happening I changed themes and changed back. Do you have an idea of how to change it so it’ll work again? I’ll play with this and see if anything works.

I’m not too sure why certain themes would be causing that problem. It could be that the theme probably disabled display of the system tray (if that is possible). I have never had this issue before though. You may want to search Google or the Microsoft Knowledge Base.

I’m going to try both those suggestions, plus the one you had earlier, thanks, and btw, just did a restart with a new skin and nothing, I’m going to try and go through all the skins and each time go back go the windows one, even though it’s happening in every skin

btw, what skin is it that you use, I saw it once and it looked awesome!?

Olive Dynamine using the Blue color scheme :cubs:

k thanks, the prefetch stuff isn’t working, now for the long and boring task of searching everything everwhere :stuck_out_tongue:

oh, and btw, when I go start menu and taskbar properties, it won’t even allow me to hide inactive icons, that entire thing is hidden, take a look, in the case that anybody else might’ve seen this:

figured it out I think! some problem with my registry having the hide icons turned on, how on earth was that changed??? I know I didn’t change it in the registries, perhaps there is some setting I switched stupidly… oh well… or maybe I did do that when I edited the regitstries for fun a while back, don’t remember :P, now for a restart to try it out

fixed it!!! thanks kirupa, I knew this forum would figure it out, now why on earth would my audio of played double the normal speed the other day though?

now just to get me to be a mod, mwah ha ha! :stuck_out_tongue: :to:, that’ll be the day, jk
