Hi, everyone!
In the next couple of days, I’ll be removing the old forums from Google and blocking search engines from indexing it. The only forums Google should be aware of will be these forums. My main reason is that search engines don’t like it when duplicate content is found. Because majority of the old content is in the new forums in near-identical form, there is no need to suffer a SEO hit.
Besides, users can always manually go to the old forums for attachments or something in particular that they really need.
Seems ok. Is there any hit taken from external links pointing to the old forums no longer pointing to current forums? It seems like what was popular may no longer be popular because there’s no context to judge said popularity. Or maybe there’s something that accounts for that (I don’t know)
There will be a hit as external sites that link to the old forums give those topics greater visibility. Most of the linking was from pages on kirupa.com itself, and I’m manually fixing up old articles that didn’t get auto-updated as part of template changes I made.
