On Tagging Threads

Hi everyone,

Please stop posting inappropriate, rude, or useless tags on threads. It’s not really all that funny and it doesn’t add anything to the forum. Anonymous insults are pretty weak, if you can’t say it with your username attached you certainly shouldn’t be saying it without.

Tags provide a powerful searching interface, especially for poorly titled threads, but I get the feeling you guys are pretty close to ruining it.

So please, do everyone a favor and stop.

Thanks.

As long as they aren’t rude or insulting I think it’s pretty amusing to read them. It’s really weak to insult people though tags tho…

Everyone keeps tagging threads as Bs still isnt funny and it makes me cry at night.

I actually think we shouldn’t allow tags in random. There’s really no point, how many times do you actually search for something in random.

I searched for Jeff Wheeler in tags to find that thread.

Tags are favorite part of this forum tho!

Anonymous insults are the lame.

Get rid of tags that are bashful or insulting. Let the rest stay. It’s not a freaking epidemic. Sheesh!

Phenex I am going to beat you to 1000 posts.

It’s not our responsibility to babysit you guys and go through each thread and each tag and pick out the offending ones. It’s (collectively) your responsibility as members of the community to keep it positive and refrain from this nonsense.

Stop. I will- st- st-. I said stop i-

I WILL TURN THIS CAR AROUND.

Yeah, I agree. The random section is so rarely useful that I can’t see the tagging going anywhere good.

I am hilarious.

HEY JOSHUA JENKINS- I DISLIKE your LEFT earlobe.

[whisper]Just kidding, it is so much smoother than the right[/whisper]

Irony.

OK. I tagged this thread, but you asked for it. Here’s my other tag that I wrote on all my folders in high school and spray painted on a fence once.
(baby, I’m your man…)
:pleased:

I kind of like the tags, they’re funny, and definitely are a great way for members to creatively express themselves. Besides, you guys can see who sets what tags, so all that’s left is a tag reporting mechanism and you guys can easily monitor those too!

Can we have two provisions? BS is still not funny, and Jeff smells? Don’t lie BS, you like the attention.

What benefit do tags really provide? If the poster is incapable of providing a meaningful title and/or searchable text in their thread, I somehow doubt they’d have a sudden rush of lucidity when it comes to tagging the same thread. Besides which you can probably bet your house that, in most cases, the tags are going to be “Flash”, “actionscript”, or both.

When it comes to searching, if someone lacks the neccessary skills to type “Jeff Wheeler” into the normal search box, how exactly would typing the same into a tag search benefit them?

But others might tag it with useful tags. I guess.

I see.

Useful tags like…errrrr…“actionscript”, “flash”, or “x member is/is not hilarious”?

Ooooooor if the member is feeling unusually responsible and creative, tags like;

Particles, particle control, enter_frame pixels and et cetera ad infinum!
