“him him laid” made me laugh.
…soooo, can you tell it’s me leaving insults in the tags?
 Wow, I’m way out on this one. I didn’t even know what tags you guys were talking about, until I scrolled all the way down to change pages and discovered them for the first time.
Sure it’s not your responsibility to babysit anyone. But I really doubt that the mods don’t have the option(s) to monitor who’s been writing what in the tags.
You guys monitor each and every thread as it is. All that is added to a thread this way is a few words - tags. Someone acts like a fool, you take action. Simple. Isn’t that what you guys have been doing all along?
I honestly do not see the point of this rant. I agree it is collectively the entire community’s responsibility to keep it “all good”, but that doesn’t really happen, does it? So to me, at the end of it all, it seems that you’re just raged about 4 words added to a thread containing anywhere between 400 to 4 million words.
If someone says something stupid in a discussion or posts spam or acts ignorant, you guys are always there to save the day (and I can usually admire that). But seriously, are you trying to tell me that monitoring a few added words, on the same page as the thread, a few tags are gonna be very different from what you do on a daily basis?
We can debate about this extremely frivolous issue till infinity but the fact is, tags are just groups of words like any other comment/reply in a thread. The good and useful ones are rare, the funny ones are usually funny, the bad ones are kicked in the butt. As simple as that.

You are either missing out on the whole point or doing exactly what I said… Debating for no reason at all. You vote against tags, fine, get um out! We don’t need tags to be honest. kF is well scrawled without the need for added tags and the site’s search engine is pretty good too for any relevant or irrelevant information.
The point is that the nature of the action proposed is unjustified, like it has been on a few occasions in the past. Anyway, coming to this topic solely…
Also, again, why not take action against the offender rather than just chucking out a feature/thought. Oh and btw, again let me please repeat myself - being insulting and rude in general, isn’t that something we’ve dealt with even when tags weren’t there? What’s changed?
Then why just tags? Mods and Kirupa shouldn’t have to monitor anything at all. I agree with you a 100%. I don’t see where your blunt edge is.
It’s not a perfect world. If that were the case, there wouldn’t be a need to appoint mods in the first place.
You being the keyword here, instead of ‘we’? Really, more arrogant bs than I expected. But anyway, I’m okay with it because it doesn’t bother me.
Maybe try not having epiphanies of burgeoning self-righteousness.
To retrace the course of this discussion for a brief moment…
…was a casual response to…
…which somehow hit your soft spots.
I actually agree with this part of Digi’s reply though…
Oh and my final response - I don’t care if the tags stay or go. It’s just that when someone in an authoritative position comes up with an extremely innovative idea, such as getting rid of tags or anything else in general, I tend to try and question the logic behind it. Simple and nothing personal.
And the reason behind thinking of everyone as something even lesser than “vaguely mature humanesque beings” would now be a pleasure to know too.
I’m off.
Dude, shutuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup.[whisper]Oh no, am I allowed to say that? I totally did.[/whisper] So much girly whinging.
P.S. He said “you” followed by “all” which is still grouping everyone as a whole.
I think all the dumb tags added to the posts make the search function less useful. Sure the first 3 tags ever were funny, but now it’s just pointless and waters down the results. The search still indexes words within posts, so the tagging doesn’t really do much at all. Especially when it is really inconsistently tagged.
I’m not going to lie, I’m not reading any of that.
Wow. I can’t believe I read all that either.
If I post a tag moving forward, it will be relevant to the thread. :kommie:
Especially when it is really inconsistently tagged.
This, right here, is exactly why tags are completely useless.
unless we have the ability to click and choose specific tag-words from a list, every tag will be different, rendering any search function, utterly useless.
This is a long thread, i skipped to the bottom… what did I miss?
Something about tags, and people arguing over their use or something. I didn’t even know we had tags…
Didn’t miss much just that we should be nicer when were tagging threads or “tony the tagger” will find us. I actually found that one funny but it was removed.
I didn’t think Phenex’s post was whiny at all - I thought it was pretty well reasoned, and I tend to agree with him on a few things. That said, DM’s points about watering down search results is valid too. I fail to see how not reading a post with a perfectly valid position helps anything. :2c:
:run:
^I fail to see how acknowledging the anti-authority standpoints a few you have is going to accomplish anything. I feel no need to defend myself to those of you who feel unjustifiably oppressed.
There are rules. Follow them or don’t. There will be consequences.
