Particle systems - 3DS MAX 9

Hello peepalz! (Gosh! Pee Pals! :P)

I’ve been working with this idea in my head of creating an acidic venom spray like the one Reptile spits in the game Mortal Kombat 4.

I’m using a Super Spray particle system that is aligned like a fountain (vertically, nozzle facing upwards) bound to a Gravity warp and a Deflector warp.

Now, I wanna use the “Metaparticles” particle type for the spray. The problem is, while the particle generation rate is less than 20, it renders fine. As soon as it goes over it, the rendering just forces my PC to freeze and I’m running on 2 gigs of RAM here with 512 MB video memory.

Any way that I can reduce rendering time and/or prevent the freeze. Second of all, is the metaparticles system even worth all the system hog? Third of all, is there any other method to emulate the same “gel sticking” effect?

Thanks a bunch!
