This is going to be a request for more information, as well as a bit of a rant.
So the recent events in Asia have re-spurred my desire to do something better with my time and I’m applying to the US Peace Corp. (www.peacecorp.gov).
Does anyone here have a close contact who was in the Corp? I have some questions I’d like to ask them.
Now my rant:
The Peace Corp is government run and in theory is a similar entity to our military. It is a min. 2 year term of service to our country. You are trained and deployed somewhere…
yet… it is a lenghtly application process that requires a 4-year degree. The pay is minimal and the post benefits are nothing compared to military service. Compared to the military who they’ll take anyone willing to sign the dotted line, the Peace Corp seems to make it hard to get into??? why should it be hard to volunteer your time to make the world a better place? seems a little backward to me…
