This is a game I made (Not quite done) that is very similar to Pheonix. Tell me what you think!
Awesome. I love it.
I can’t say that I have ever heard of Pheonix, but I think you are on to something with that game.
You should do something to set it apart from normal “flying side-scrolling shooters”. I played a game similar to this that had a part of the game where you had to dock your ship onto another ship. If you could do that you then got to use both ships together in the next level, I think that would be the shiznit.
Very cool, I’m a big fan of Phoenix and shooters in general so this was definitely my forte!
I have lots of suggestions but most of them have to do with the gameplay rather than anything. (time lapse while I play it again)
Mainpage: The load music “window” doesn’t have a close button. Perhaps an option to simply turn the music off should be in order as well. (nice touch btw) Also, maybe add an option to change the controls. (my spacebar’s a little worn
)
Standard gameplay: I think the ship and the enemies are a little close together, ecspecially for the size of the ship. In turn it made it a little more difficult but made other portions of the game useless. Such as the ability to move forward and backwords as well as left and right. More often than not, moving F/B was absolutely useless because it would just leave you getting shot easier. This can be offset by increasing the distance between the opponents and the player and by utilizing the enemies’ diagonal shot. The other thing you might want to consider is utilizing a momentary damage shield after you get shot. Meaning that when you get hit, have a second or so buffer between when you can get hit again. Often I’d find myself just taking a hunk of bullets all at once and the lifebar would drop more than half from one barrage. I don’t know how you have your layering, but is there a way you could have the bullets on top of the money? I grab a little bit of money, but there’s a bullet hidden under it and I take damage. With so much going on at once, it makes it quite impossible to know where all the bullets lie.
Weapons: Shield purchase was perfect, it made the difficulty greater while still giving a little buffer. Weapon 2 was WAY better than 3&4. The option for a spreadshot works a lot better than a single powerful shot. The upgrade to increase your shot rate seemed a little underpriced, that is also a very handy tool as well. Weapon 5 seemed pretty well matched. The umbrella was almost useless because of the closeness factor and the lack of temporary damage shield once again. No matter how much dodging you did, the umbrella would just take a couple hits and go down easy. This falls about the same for the helper, he was just too large and would die too easy, not worth my 1500 I spent for him. I didn’t really have enough time to play and try out the other weapons, but I’ll try again later
Other: I’m assuming you know that the graphics could use a boost in all cases. You could add an online top 10 or something to give players an incentive to play more.
Everything looks great though and it’s off to a great start, and best of all it’s fun!
I’ll get working on doing what you said. As for exiting the music loading thing, if you just leave the field blank and hit load, it doesn’t affect the actual music, it will just exit. Also, I’m keeping the conrols the same. It mostly has to do with the coding, and how I’m having stuff work.
That’s cool, I’m exited to see what comes of it! Keep us posted!
You’re exited, eh?
I guess maybe I’m a shooter fanatic?
That’s not what I meant. I think you meant you were “Excited”. Not “Exited”
HAHA, I missed that! The typo demon strikes again!
A bit better’d!
That is one really kool game, you are really on to something with it, keep it up
34380 points. Woooooo
I’ve heard of Phoenix for graphing calculators, but that is it.
Great job, it’s awesome!! There is a little lag when you have weapon 6 though, I don’t know if it’s just my computer or what.
It’s not just you. There are many calculation things going on in weapon six.
I don’t have a graphing calculator, but most of my friends do, and most of them have Pheonix. That’s pretty much all they play.
