No kidding. What a disappointment. Mc.net. Mc.joke. Mc.please. Anyways because it is a free server, they don’t provide anything decent. They do support CGI but I would have to make my own CGI bin and I don’t know how to do that. I can make a folder, however, and call it CGI on my server because of my vast knowledge and technical expertise. Can anyone help me make a CGI bin and the files that go into it? Thanks again…

to make a pseudo cgi-bin…just reset the permisions on a folder…
this can be acheived via cuteftp or any ftp software [???] but i use cute…:
right click on the folder you want to change the permissions
look for ‘CHMOD’ in the menu…
in the window that pops up…type in ‘777’ in the manual box or check the boxes to create ‘777’ this will make the folder unsecure…but i can’t remember exactly how to make it secure… i think it could be ‘755’ …
ask your tech guy… 
now that should work… if not…sorry…that’s all i know about Unix…I sacked off ‘CGI’ and got into ‘ASP’…
if u have any probs with the cgi script post me and i will see if i can drum up any of my old papers…

About that chmod thinggy, you should put 711. It reads like this :
owner group other
and the numbers are :
read write execute
1 2 4
And you just add the numbers. So you want to be able to read, write and execute your file, therefore 1+2+4=7, thou want thy group and the others to be able to read it so 1+0+0=1

Thanks again guys for your help…I am trying to just put this website where it belongs, on its own paid for server. I will try those things you all mentioned for the sake of knowledge and experience. But hopefully in the next day or two it will be in its own URL home. Anybody know of any awesome web hosts that are relatively cheap, possibly w/o any setup fees? And as for the other things I will try those and try to make it work anyways for the sake of whats already been said. You all are very helpful~

Try my host, www.hostdepartment.com. They are very very good and the cheapest out there. Right now I believe they are only $5 a month and NO start up fee. I use them and a friend of mine uses them. I’ve never had any problems and an account comes with lots of scripts preinstalled. Also you can use php and cgi!
I will go and check it out now. If I feel they didn’t answer all my questions I will come back and ask you. 5 bucks a month is about as low as yew gew…We all know how low yew gew is tew…
Kinda missed you today, kept waiting…yada. I think my mail will work with a php3, I am pretty confident I set it up proper. I also set up a counter, that whaddya know, needs php3. I am pretty confident that these things will ‘light’ up when I plug into a 21 century server. Hope to se ya soon~ove uua or however you say it in that language you call french–
