Call me a noob if you like 
but i’m working in photoshop and i have drop shadow layer effects on a few different layers.
when i add the effect to a new layer and then change the drop shadow settings to suite that layer it changes the drop shadow settings on the other layers to. can someone tell me how to isolate the effect to a given layer so each layer can have a separate drop shadow effect?

i just tried something again and it worked. the global light thing all of a sudden starting working. i sweaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar it didn’t work before.
