i’ve had photoshop for quite a while now, and i’ve often tried to make something with the pen tool. But i can’t seem to figure out how it works…?! can someone please help me explain how this works thx very muuuch
Hey blah-de-blah
You can’t really explain the pen tool in a post. It’s an extremely useful and in-depth feature with huge possibilities. Most of the major Photoshop tutorial sites have a good pen tutorials. Let me look for one real quick.

there ya go… pretty good tutorial i think
ahh cool thx i’ll definately check that out
it’s a very useful tool for creating customs Shapes (vectors) that can be used and re-used in Photoshop. As 28 said it is a very important tool if you constantly use photoshop…
I got a headache reading that tutorial, dude. It seems so complex.
just dont read it…
Practice with Photoshop, try having fun with the ‘SHapes’ and look at the ‘Path’ tab (which is next to layers/colors)
If you’ve ever used the pen tool in illustrator or flash you’ll find it to be pretty similar. It uses vector bezier lines to create curves and smooth lines. Photoshop converts them into raster (pixel by pixel) format. Good for making smooth lines, but I’d have to I’ve never used it that much.
actually it finds its own use as i said before in the shapes… you make your own shape and use it over and over, ie you can make a button shape and have different size of that button without losing quality
PS pen tool is kinda clunky if you can get your hands on fireworks or flash their pen tool is a lot better. I use the pen tool more than any other tool basically. Once you get the hang of it you’ll wonder how you survived without it.
use the tut that comes with the proggie for paths.
Peace
yeah the pen tool is tricky. I’m still getting the hang of it. But that tut that xxviii posted is bad as*!! thank you.
Illustrator is unmatched when it comes to the pen tool - IMO anyway. I dont like the one in Photoshop unless I am drawing straight lines with no curves.
I havent really tried the one in fireworks though… hmmm
