Picture fade in/fade out effect... how?

Hello,

I know how to fade in and out a picture using alpha, but I found a website that does it in a different way: www.gavindegraw.com. If you look at the picture in the box on the right, it has an interesting transition when you view different pages. Could anyone give me an idea about how this is done? Thanks!

Hey,

To my novice eye, it looks like that pic is in 2 layers, like a background and the regular image..... try fading the background image a certain degree, and then the regular image a little slower and have it fade second. Give it a try, its just a guess.

I think that’s an After Effects transition.

That’s interesting… I didn’t think of that, but then again, perhaps the same effect can’t be accomplished with Flash? I’ve tried a few things in Flash tonight, but nothing was even close to this. It seems like it has some sort of image over it, maybe a distorted circle or sorts, that seems to fade in with the image?

This might be a three-way transition… pic1 to white to pic2 using alpha fading. Or… it could be AE.

AE… or staggered Photoshop images.

My company used a similar effect in a one off ad we did and we made it in photoshop using several images changing them one at a time and uping the frame rate to 50 which makes the movie a little smother.

^ Yeah, that would work. Each image would be a little bit brighter than the previous one. Then you would just place each one in a frame… however I think there might be an easier way. :h:
