Pinx did step very close to the line though, I admit.
Sounds reasonable. My only concern would be hogging precious bandwidth with spam.
Hmm… Why have the forum at all? In my humble opinion. Delete the post. Delete the thread and if it persists ban the user and post an announcement about the user being banned in the same forum. That may discourage people by, first: Their posts will dissapear, then the threads, then their ID’s will no longer work.

Who signed up in one day, and posted 50 posts in just Random. Many of the posts being useless. Most likely just trying to get his post count up.
Forums? Who needs them. All Kirupa needs to be is the front page. No hassles or concerns to worry about then!
To be honest, I dont think the post count thing is going to do much. Most of the people in Random dont seem to be posting just to have their count raised. They’re just posting to post nonsense and to be involved with other people posting nonsense too. Its the community factor, not the ‘he(/she) who dies with the most posts wins’ kind of thing… at least from what I can tell.
Then again, thats what Random is about :-\ Otherwise why have it at all? Its just random nonsense for an otherwise technical/design related site. All work and no play makes jack a dull boy. People need their play. If it gets out of control, start pushing the little red button that tips their chair over and sends them into the firey pitt. We’ve been doing a pretty good job at that so far.
sen: Random WAS a place to discuss/post things that were interesting, not just stuff because you are bored. I don’t need people creating new threads telling me what they are doing now, or that they are going to bed, or that they like mad tv better than snl.
The ordered forum was created sort of as an offshoot to random. Being that since discussions like that required stricter rules, and people in random cry over rules and they feel they shouldn’t exist. Otherwise anything in Ordered could have normally been discussed in Random had people been mature enough to handle it.
[edit]but I think you are right, although there are some spammer that still seem to worry about post count a majority seem to just be relinquishing (spelling?) their bordom by creating threads of babble[/edit]
Well, how about this - let’s simply tell the members to delete the useless polls, etc. that are going on. Better yet, let’s take a more proactive stance and delete some of the more useless threads, PM members such as TheOrange who spam, etc.
Rev’s correction of lavaboy is in the right direction. I think that many realize that the freezing of post counts will only be temporary - no real incentive for them to cut down on spam.

Also, the new GZIP compression for the forums does wonders, and I don’t think there will be any problems with bandwidth, etc. The site is also given 5 mySQL databases with unlimited space, and only one has been used - so no need to worry about this. I just hope I don’t eat these words for lunch sometime though

I think we should go on a cleaning spree and delete every pointless thread created in random and continue deleting them as they appear.
Rev: If you are the one getting PMs from pinx, then by all means, slap the rules on her, if she thinks she can send PMs of PMS (lol, couldn’t resist that stupid joke) she is fooling herself and she needs to be smacked back to the real world, no one needs to take her smartarse comments, no member or mod, especially if she keeps PMing you… thats a form of harrassment.

I sent one last one asking if she wants to post here, or somewhere else.
I have also deleted most of her obnoxious posts since the incident this afternoon… hopefully when she is watching…
