Problems and Suggestions

I am creating a web page for my supervisor. His son is stationed in the Middle East for the upcoming conflict. What started out as a idea to post photos of his son and his son’s crew mates for the B-1 Bomber as a html web page… of course I had to make it better and have made a Flash site.

I am still in production of the project, but the basic jist of the functionality is there. And I am waiting for more photos and home page/contact info. And from all the photo’s I’ve found on the internet, I am thinking of making a screen saver that can be downloaded of the B-1B Bomber.
I might even try to put a forum like Kirupa.com so the parents and friends can have a “community” area to converse with those guys out in the desert. Homesick and bored!

When you view the page the bombers come into view and drop the bombs the explosion is heard and I put in that “Screen Shake” java script for a visual effect of a bomb blast!

But the problem is when viewed in the AOL browser the screen quickly dropps down OFF THE SCREEN!!!
Has anyone ever heard of this happening in AOL???
I’m not sure what happens in Netscape.

I am also looking for suggestions. I know you guys/gal’s are very creative and have good ideas.

Thanks!

hi…

Good site…nicely laid out nice use of colour…simple and effective…

its a shame that you can’t see the images before you see them…as in a thumnail or something along those lines…

The problem with having the images load one after the other and not being able to to anything about is that you feel like you have no interactivity with the site.
Also if you come to the site for a second time you have to go through it all to see any new images, which will be a bit boring…

if you have thumbnails at least you can chose which ones you want to see…aswell as teh fact that if its for families they might not be too bothered about anyone else apart from family mebbers.

I think you need to say at the begining what the sites about and what its trying to achieve .

the text sometimes is a little off and looks blurry…all you need to do it make sure the text its on an even pixel rather than on a point of a pixel…this will make it sharper.

other than that it looks good…

Oh how did you get the shake to happen at that presice moment was it something in flash or html.

good luck
postatomic:evil:

all I can say is AOL is sucks.

oh btw I tried using netscape, and it didnt work well with it… Netscape version 6
I’m downloading and upgrading to v.70, I’ll let you know if something happens

also when the screen was suppose to shake, it did shake but the window resized by itself to something smaller like 300x200

I have upgraded to version 7.0 and the window still suddenly resized.

The site looks great - good work

To answer the question about the shaking - it’s just some java script in the browser and a function from flash to call it up

The only thing I would change, except for the pictures loading by them selves is the menu windows that pop up (under specs) Make it load under the jet fighter plane image - it would look cooler to have the fighterplane always on top - espcailly with the drop shadow you have

but again - great site and good work, cannot wait to see more!

Let me go down the list of comments:

Shaking: Any suggestions? I will have a limited audiance, so I might create a Splash page (html) that tells them to view this site only with Explorer, but is it worth it JUST to have the cool shake effect? I hate AOL!

Plane ontop: Yes, I am tempted to do that, I agree it would look cooler to have that “on top” of anything. I just now uploaded a new treatment for the specs page

Thumbnails: YES, I did think about doing the thumbnail route, but I just couldn’t think of how to do it. Any suggestions?
The problem is as the days and months go by, I will be getting more and more photos. And was worried on how I was going to manage all of them.

Blurry Text: I am aware of this and will go back and position all test on a even dot-0 cordinate!!! Just trying to get it all done and will go back and polish it up.
