Problems with masking

Hey there - first time posting.

I have a logo I created for my webpage with FreeHand. I have finally learned how to do a lighting mask to have the effect of the moving gleam across my logo, but whenever I try to create the effect (using different methods even) it isnt’ working correctly. Only part of my logo is being affected by the mask.

I have tried all the things that I can think of to make this work. So far the only thing that has worked is changing the vector logo into a jpeg and plugging it into flash, but I really don’t want to do that due to resolution and cleaness of the image.

I am including links to the 2 files - the original logo as well as the masking .fla file that I have been trying to make work. If anyone has had this problem before or can help me, that would be great!

<a href=“http://www.jareoworld.com/masking01.fla”>.fla file</a>
<a href=“http://www.jareoworld.com/fish.fh10”>FreeHand file</a>

Thanks again for any help.

Oh - the masking method I am using is the one described on this web page in the following tutorial

Try to post in the right forum next time

don’t ask… i don’t know why it wasn’t working properly. :stuck_out_tongue:

It wasn’t working because you had your mask as a bunch of grouped objects. You can only mask 1 object to 1 item. So you would have to break apart your grouped logo being used as the mask area until you break it into Fills so that it is nothing but fills (which counts as 1 object when all the content is fills)

i thought that it only applied to dynamic masks… oh! well.

i still don’t get it though, all those shapes are grouped into one object (graphic). from my view point, it’s only one object, not a bunch of objects.

anyway, don’t mind me… i’m crazy. :stuck_out_tongue:

You can only mask 1 object to 1 item

I actually messed up there, thats not true. You can mask multiple items with 1 mask if doing it on the stage. You can use multiple layers, or just mask a movie clip symbol (you can only do it dynamically if everything is in one symbol I believe). So even though you can mask multiple objects, I don’t believe the mask itself allows you to use more than 1 grouped object.

I don’t work much with masks so I don’t know how right I am… mostly theory  :stuck_out_tongue:

well, since i don’t work much with masks either, i’ll just believe what you said. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok, but if im wrong just pretend I never said anything :beam:

nah… if you’re wrong i will hunt you down and slap you with a huge trout. :trout:

:stuck_out_tongue:

I am so glad you said trout at the end of that sentence :x

There goes my Philly humour.

:stuck_out_tongue:

i’d like to keep this conversation going, but i got to go.

later. =)

Awwww… well thats alright, im supposed to be fighting against thread highjacking anyway

GET OUT!!!

Now I feel accomplished :beam: ::continues fooling self::
