Projector Files

I have Exported a flash movie to a windows projector file. It is to be authored on to CD ROM rather than web. I have a couple of questions?

  1. Can the projector file be played on any PC? ie, does the user need to have flash player?

  2. the projector file is 230MB, cos its rammed full of movied and sounds. It takes about 20 seconds to load to the front page. If i put a preloader on the first page, would it display that while loading the rest?

3)Can i make an autorun file, so that i can burn it on CD, and it starts automaticly when the CD is put in the drive?

Any answers would be appreciated

um, i’m still new to flash, but i know that you dont need flash to run the projector. Thats why the projector was included - so an exe can be used rather than an swf.

If you want an authoring package i would recommend macromedia director for your CD stuff, if you can your hands on a copy (or can use someone elses).

Director is expensive though, so i guess it isn’t always the best option.

Ive seen the preloader thing done before, but im not sure how it was done

You can make an autorun, but i dont think you can do it in flash.

(apologies if im wrong on any of this btw, i am still a newbie!)

hope i was at least some help, im sure others will be able to give you better advise:)

thanks very much orange - that was very helpful. I think i know someone with director

yes you can use a autorun on a cdrom

no you dont need a preloader for files that are on a cd because its all located on the same place so theres no need for a preloader

no you dont need to have the flash player in order to view a projector
but try not to put html pages into the cd because some people might not have the flash player installed, if you do include webpages on the cd make sure you get the macromedia shockwave kit which includes the shockwave and flash media players, and make sure you put a flash detection script on the html file so if the user doesnt have it installed hes directed to another page with the install option right from the cd

try doing a search for autorun and projector files im sure you will find some more info, i talked to kazchick about this like a week ago so it should be somewhere around the forum good luck

Here’s a good instructions on making an autorun file.

Thanks very much for your help guys.
The preloader stuff makes sense, but it is taking so long to even start the projector because of the file size. Just wanted a little something to show that it is working!
I wondered if a different movie could be used to load the projector into? That way it would load quickly, and i could use the preloader.
Thanks for the autorun stuff - very helpful

preloader only work on flash player, not for projector…
but maybe i’m wrong…

don’t use swf on the cd… u never know if they have flash player on their computer…

flash player is distributable. You can license/become distributor from Macromedia’s website. Just do the search. And then it solves all the headaches of viewers not having flash player.
