Publishing fonts

venerable flash masters,

sorry in advance for clogging up forum space with a humble request that is im sure, far below your scope of expertese, but ive checked the seach feature with no luck, and im starting to pull my hair out.
so here’s my prob, ive made a cute little interactive resume .swf file, burnt it on cd, and checked it on another pc to see if it works, and it does, exept it replaces my nifty pixel font with times new roman (ugh). i thought, maybe if i imported the font into the library, thet might solve the prob, but flash doesn’t seem to let me import .ttf files.
so how can i configure my flash project to carry across my unusual font?
a million thanx

When using dynamic text, you often have to embed the font if it’s not a standard font!
Click the character button in the properties panel and select “all characters”…

ah-ha, my eyes have been opened,
thankyou dr nick, you’re a diamond geeza:)

just glad I could help!

hmmm,

seem to be having some technical difficulties with that solution.

the embedded text now shows up on another computer, but it has 2 faults, firstly it fills all the gaps in, in letters like o e a, they have they’re holes filled in with the line colour, so o appears as a solid circle), and secondly the embedded text is now antialias and all fuzzy, i think i need another solution, because the background needs to be antialias, and the text is unreadable when it is embedded into the antialias background.

the perfect solution would be to import the font into flash, but as that doesn’t appear possible, i wonder if there is another way to reach a similar result?

thanx for any advice, seems such a simple thing, but i think its giving me brain tumors.;(

OK!.. you need to know a little bit more about using pixelfonts in flash - I think this site has a guide on that!
The pixel font you are using is not a pixel font for flash, but for photoshop, that explains the filling.
The antialias/blurry thing is caused by the position of the font, make sure the fonts position is like X:20 Y:15, and not 20.2 and 15.3…

cool, ill try a new strategy
looks like i gotta go buy a font, and then re-shuffle all the text in my work, i think 10 cc’s of caffeen directly into the brain and some matchsticks for my eyelids are in order.
thanx alot for the advice, i really appreciate it, i think you,ve saved me about 12 hours of trial and error.

hehe… you’re welcome - and now I’m gonna save you some money - check out miniml.com for some cool free pixel fonts!

cheers :beam:

man, saints do still exist,
i though i was really smart downloading tons of free pixel fonts, until you informed me that most of them don’t work in flash cos they’re for photoshop… duh,
i think ill stick to feeling stupid, its alot more comfortable.
i cheched out those free fonts you mentioned, and halleluya, praise the lord, they work perfectly.
i owe you one dude, now all i gotta do is delete about 30 cursed pixel fonts, and re-build my defective flash project. i think some soothing music is called for.
thanks a million, if u ever need a favour just ask
