Quick flash-multiplayer-game question

Hi

I want to build a multiplayer game.

I have a good ideas for an RPG game, as well as turnbased games etc…

My Question is what do I use to make it multiplayer.

I searched the forums for answers and I got several.

So…

Which is better:

Electroserver?
If I don’t purchase the full version, then I’m restricted to 20 people at a time.
And I would have to have electroserver running on one of my computers 24/7 if I want the game running 24/7

Smartfox?
Seems to be similar to Electroserver
Except they have what they call a “lite” version which has fewer features
but unlimited connected people.

amfphp?
I’m not really sure exactly if amfphp could be used for this, but its free, and it may be able to run on my webhost (http://powweb.com)

Flash Communication server?
Not really an option, its expensive to buy, or I’d have to get a new webhost, which is also not an option.

Seeing as Powweb gives me more bandwidth then my ISP does for my internet usage in general. I’d love to have the game running from there, and using Powwebs bandwidth vs my ISPs.

Anyway I’m open to suggestions.

I’m fully prepared to run the server application from my computer if i have to.
I have 3 macs running Os X and one PC running Windows XP.
I’d rather work on my macs though.

Any and all games I plan on making would be free to use and play, and while I’m not fully decided yet, I think I’ll make them open source too.

Of course if a multiplayer game I create becomes really popular, say… my firends get their friends who get their friends etc… to play it. Then I’ll consider charging say… $1.00 per month to pay for a webhost, or whatever other expenses the maintenance and running of the game requires, just enough to pay for costs, no profit.

The reason I want to bring my game ideas to life is because I want to play them, especially with other people. If it involves work on my part, so be it. But right now money isn’t an option.

Anyway…

Any suggestions would be great.

Oh, and Director is an option as well, if its better somehow.
Although I’ve never really worked in it before, and never did know what Director could do for me that Flash couldn’t. But thats what tutorials are for

Thanks
