Real time 3D web site for furniture store

Basically picture a modern stylish provider of office furniture. They want to offer the ability, on their site, for customers to view all the styles of chairs, tables, screens, pedestals etc. in a office type environment. With that the colour of each chair, table and so on needs to be selectable, like from a swatch pallet.

Now I do have a few solutions to at , but I just wondered if anyone had done or seen anything of this nature before. I know about some car and mobile phone sellers that offer demos of their products, in 3d, with selectable colour/components. in the main www.cult3d.com seems to be a popular avenue.

The altern. being the use of static, raster images and dynamically tinting the colours. The main aim is to provide the most hands of for me (as a developer) so I don’t have to go and craft various tinted images/models.

do you follow ? any links, tips, prods or pokes would be accepted gratefully.

Thanks all.

Wirefusion is the way to go. I got a free edition off a magazine CD (v 2.5) a little while back and it’s a beauty. They’re up to Version 4 and you can download a trial here:

Basically you export the VRML from your favourite 3D application and then import it into wirefusion. You can add interactivity (navigation buttons etc) and then export the finished product as a java applet. You can also add dynamic textures (movies, change colours, chrome effects).

I’ve only used it in passing, but it is a great app that is pretty easy to get to grips with.

I think Alias Image Studio does something similar. I Have a project like this too. I think I will try wirefusion as well.

cheers ironikart, looks perfect. I’ll let you know how i get on

dont most apps do quicktime vr? Downloading a new active x player is not cool with most people. And alot of network settings will prevent it. Also doesnt shock wave do this? I may be reading the post wrong.

Nice post ironik. Never knew about that one

dont know about shockwave but as far as i know, u need qt for qt vr.

Wirefusion runs through a java app so thats all the end user needs, where as with stuff like cult3d they have thier own plugin

lot of folk dont have the java plugin as well. I know I didnt.
