A Soldiers Christmas Poem
TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF
PLASTER AND STONE.

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO
IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.

I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
NOT EVEN A TREE.

NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
A SOBER THOUGHT
CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
SILENT, ALONE,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED
A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.

WAS THIS THE HERO
OF WHOM I’D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
THE FLOOR FOR A BED?

I REALIZED THE FAMILIES
THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.

SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM
EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

I COULDN’T HELP WONDER
HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES
AND STARTED TO CRY.

THE SOLDIER AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
"SANTA DON’T CRY,
THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;

I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
I DON’T ASK FOR MORE,
MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS."

THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER
AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
I COULDN’T CONTROL IT,
I CONTINUED TO WEEP.

I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
SO SILENT AND STILL
AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
FROM THE COLD NIGHT’S CHILL.

I DIDN’T WANT TO LEAVE
ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
SO WILLING TO FIGHT.

THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
WHISPERED, “CARRY ON SANTA,
IT’S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE.”

ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
“MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT.”

This poem was written by a Marine stationed in Okinawa Japan.

Thats awesome

I heard on the news last night some G.I. gave his leave to another solider so that he could be home for the holidays with his family.

Much respect goes out to all our soldiers all over the world - especially that man who gave up his leave for another to see his loved ones.

That was nice :thumb:

Merry Christmas to all the soldiers, but don’t forget, they are doing it because they wanted to… (sry)

Here is a little poem i wrote today…

holiday greetings go to the soldiers overseas,
dedicated to those torn between war and peace;
supporting the profits of fortune five-hundred companies,
must be hard knowing your flag-draped coffin will not be shown publicly,
but if your lucky, you’ll return to your country,
without a scratch, take off your boots,
and pour some egg-nog down the hatch,
found saddam, but bombs still pound iraq,
losing comrades in a friendly-fire ground attack
its not a job its an adventure for an army of one-
thousand and one reasons that you’re now armed with a gun,
combin the desert, looking for a carton of scuds,
the phantom weapons of mass destruction must be found,
trust me now, finish your mission, and soon you’ll be over and out
while the cruise missles fly lower than a soldiers’ morale,
we can overthrow a killer, but we cant throw in the towel
till its safe for Wal-Mart to move its stores into town
smokin him out of his spider hole, but something isnt well,
can you tell the difference 'tween a hiding space, and a prison cell?
negotiating the handover of a bonified villian?
forget it, you’ll never get that twenty-five million,
besides, we need US Troops to get the credit for the capture
in order to boost Double-U’s international stature
appauled that i suggest that war has political purposes?
cant wait to see the look on your face when truth surfaces
cease your nervousness, fear is a form of control,
unfortunately, the act of getting at a formidable foe
involved collateral damage for many expendable souls,
what a hell hole; so for whom does the liberty bell toll?

So true… dont forget those that are sacrificing many things…

Seasons Greetings, Peace and prayers for the Troops who are overseas during the holidays, and their families who are without them… I support our troops, but not the war…
