My friend is with Virgin Media in the UK. Currently to connect to the internet he just plugs is laptop into the phone line. So he has a direct connection to the internet. So his default gateway is 80.xxx.xxx.xx. But soon he has people moving in with him and they will want to use wirless etc. So he has a router, so I told him to connect the router to the phone line thingy and his laptop into the router. But the router didn’t seem to work, he didnt get a default gateway of 192.xxx.xxx.xxx nor was there an ip to access the router. So I google and find out certain routers don’t work with virgin media and read you need a cable modem (I think). What shall my friend do? Throw away the current ADSL router and my a cable modem, or is it possible to get the ADSL one working?
